Found one nearby, and I'm thinking about picking it up as a restoration project. I have no idea what offer. Is it worth even trying to doctor on?

Not sure on value but it's an uncommon, fairly desirable model (sort of like a 103cc 250) and well worth putting some effort into if you're into the old macs at all.
All depends on condition though...

Mine came with the Tillotson installed but it is supposed to have the MAC flat back so I swapped it in.

In a 103 cc shoot out, the SP105 (106 cc actually...) was hands down faster than the S550 or the 795 which were pretty much neck to neck.

But at least the s550, being of the larger displacement in it's family/chassis, is likely 5lbs lighter than either of those two which are both under-displaced versions in their line...
