I have an older Porter Cable that will drive 16's no problem. I've driven mails in dry 2" hemlock, it's very hard when dry.

Aaaand cue the peanut gallery...
84 lumber screwed up when my nephew bought his house kit we used the exterior and fabbed the inside.
They gave us several hundred pounds of nails.
We could've built several House's.
Nephew being a cheap ass
we used only nails.
Traded some back in for roofing nails
And returned like 300.00 worth of nails.
For credit
They let him return every board we didn't use
He saved thousands of dollars.

Lumber yards around here used to be good like that. Lowe's has put most of them out of business.

I have a question for Mr. @Czed

It appears you are the resident Tim the Toolman, so...

What nail gun do I need to get for driving 16's in hardwood?
I understand that is a tall order. Used and new, please. Air or battery power, Idk :nusenuse:

I used a Paslode . Just dip the tips of the nail Clips in oil. They'll drive

I'm partial to air powered Hitachi/Metabo nailers. I'm just a DIYer/hack, but have rarely heard or read anybody say anything negative about em.

My .015 worth.
