Something a little different from the mainstream.
Full on winter here, time to pull some wrenches in the shed.
Bear with me just getting up and running here on these 2 projects.
1983 Honda CR250R and a 1982 Yamaha YZ125 from the era when the modern liquid cooled mx engines got their start.
Both engines are last of the right hand ignitions with a different profile compared to today's left hand ignition stand up position bikesaw.
Enabling both saws to be more compact, more streamlined with oiler, ignition etc. being self contained inside the power head.
Also the ability to cut from both sides of the log without header pipe interference.
I over did it on the carbon fiber and titanium, money could have been spent elsewhere...

I previously tried quoting this post but accidentally edited it instead.
So adding back what was lost.

I did good on this Ebay/Amazon shopping spree, how did we cope 30 years ago? Lol.
For little over $300 I got a .30" over cylinder that just needs a light hone and new piston. A clean head with no shrapnel damage. A straight OEM crank that's never been taken apart and only needs a new rod kit, could still run it no rod end play but side play is getting near .035" territory.
Set of matches crankcase halves with tight bearing pockets and good gasket surfaces. A hole in the back of the transmission housing but that'll be cut off anyways.

So decided where to cut the transmission housing near the crankcase. But going to wait till Monday and take it to the guys at the local welding shop. Throw them a $20 bill for the 5 minute wait.
I used to have a old fashioned power hacksaw in the late '90s wish I never got rid of it.

I remember 35 or more years ago when I got the YZ125 crankcase cut off in a big power hacksaw.
The machinist looks at me with eyes as big as saucers, he said "Are you sure you want to do this?"

So according to my new Oregon lawn mower blade balancer my machinist didn't get the YZ125's 11T drive sprocket right.

This is to @Bigmac, I think this VForce 3 reed cage catalogued for the 1983 CR250R may have the flow of the 2001 cage.
I will keep the Boyesen Pro Series carbon reeds I bought with stoppers deleted for the YZ125.

I running an 01 cage on one bike and v3’s on the other, I also have a set of cr v3’s I am going to test the 01 vs v3’s soon. There is an inlet difference between the cr and trx V3’s

Are you going to build a flat adapter plate for the carb?

Yes I am, will have to make something up out of about 3/4" aluminum plate. Better if I bought a piece of Chinese magnesium.

I made this up for the YZ in the '80s to hold a tilly hr 36mm carb.

Found this nice CR500 billet adapter on the net. With the boot removed it may hold the BN jet ski carb. $91
I think the 500 and 250 are similar in the 6 bolt pattern.

Making your own is probably the way to go, and the trx cage is centered better if you go that way. I ran that esr cage for years they have over 150 hours on them and maybe 200hrs have been on 3 different motors and 8 piston changes, I swapped out to trx v3’s and only have one ride on them, they had more bottom end that the esr, but that could be because there old and need new petals, I have more testing to do. So far I like them all! Lol the cr 01 cage on the 363 had been a one kick starter...so I am hesitant to swap

@Bigmac, just checked the part #'s of the CR480, CR500 and the CR250 from 1983 to 1990.
Intake reed gaskets are identical for the CR480-250.
CR500 #'s identical also except for the middle 3 letters.
When my jet ski carb comes in I'll call the company that sells the CR500 billet intake and give them the carb's stud hole and cage hole measurements.
Hopefully it will bolt up.

The 500 is different for sure, I have a lot of 500 stuff. Lol the banshee cheetah intakes use cr250/trx reeds so the billet intake for those could work, but you have to buy two.

But the CR500 and CR 250 six bolt hole reed valve gaskets do line up equally right?
