There is conflicting info about single point and cluster diamond dressers. I decided to use a cluster dresser for the top surface, and a single point for the edge. Seems to be semi intuitive and works pretty well.
Thats what I'm using too

I guess because the single just has to kiss a very thin edge of the wheel, and the cluster dresses a surface that is quite a bit wider...
Mine only has single point what are you seeing different by using the multipoint?

That's where the conflicting info comes in, I have been told the cluster leaves a "nicer finish". Others, have been told the exact opposite...IDK? They both make a lot of dust that I'm careful not to breathe!

I think the result of dressing the stone is more dependent on the operator than the dresser.

Either will work and can provide the results you are after
I've managed to grind the hell out of mine with the single point dressers. Lol. Just start at the corner and go slow.

To me, the multi point gives a smoother finish faster than the single does on the top dresser. It doesn’t “bite” the stone as hard as the single .................

Always spin the wheel so it's lifting the dressing arm and it will limit the bite factor.

You can run 25-30 degree top plate for work chain. You want a steeper underneath angle if you do that. It will give you more forward lean when you do it and a stronger corner.
Could you post a picture of a chain done the way your are describing so I could get an idea of what to look for. Thank you

Requires a thin wheel and 28-32° tooth down-angle or you'll end up with a bunch of forward lean. This is about as blunt as I can make a cutter without hitting the straps. Lasts 3 tanks in clean hardwood. It's not fast, but it stays sharp

Side angle 26.55

What do you mean 28-32 degrees of tooth down angle?
