Intro: These saws keep derailing Dave's 365/372 Chinese thread, so I thought they ought to have their own. This isn't a step by step build thread like Joe, Steve and others do. Just a place where we can share and catalog all the info we have to help members building project saws on this chassis. These are really fun and easy to work on saws. Unlike the 372 chassis that saw few changes over it's model run, there are a TON of variations that took place during this chassis model run, so there's plenty of stuff to keep tract of. And there's more differences between the Husky and Jonsered models as well. What fits, what doesn't. What's available, what's NLA. What aftermarket parts are available to help keep project costs down. (how about $97 for an OM 272 top cover vs $5 for the Farmertec? lol) Which are good and what should be avoided. OK, so let's have some fun with this.

To start off I tried to find something on @taplinhill question from last night on 630/670 top handles. The handles from the early twin coil saws do have a different part number than the later single coil handle. The two 630's in the pic should be all original. Nothing I can really see there, but I'll get around to measuring them and see what's up.

Can the 625 be talked about in here? I have a cherry 625 I picked up and a mofo 272 topend that need to go together - man I am terrible about finishing things.

Of course; any model ever made on the chassis. They'd never all fit in the thread title. :)

Ain't that a coincidence. I have a 92 268 open port that I'll be doing myself; it'll be fun to compare notes. Haven't checked to see if it's a Gillardoni. Already have 268XP and 272XP variants, so I'll rebuild it as it is and see how it stacks up. Don't have one of these, but I do have a gray top 66 which uses the same open port top end on the earlier twin coil chassis.

Mine will be better
It'll have a zoo city ported cylinder.

But mine will have a $3 Farmer Tec piston! And would no doubt get stopped by yours if they ever ran into each other. LOL

I am going to tweak it a little and see what happens. Never messed with one of these top ends beyond the stock one in my 66, so I'm kind of curious. Can always upgrade later, but I have three 272's and none of these.

Speaking of the aftermarket, does Farmertec make most parts for the 272? Do they make any 266 specific parts? I won't even ask about Jonsered.

What saws did the metal gas tank come on? I see a few advertised on eBay. I did not know if it would interchange with the plastic ones.

They make most if not all of the parts for the single coil 61/268/272. Could probably do a decent clone or kit if they wanted. I don't think there's anything specific to any of the twin coil saws out there other than the few parts that were common to the single coil models. And there's not much of that.

Metal tanks were on the 162's like in the pics above. They do interchange but use fine thread mounts to screw into the metal tank, where all the plastic tanks used course thread mounts.

Are the fine thread mounts still available? If not I guess it would not do me any good to switch to the metal tank.

The XPG saws, even the 272 had the metal tank too.

That's what I figured, but wasn't sure. I wish they did make a kit fir the 272 (288 too, but that's another thread).
