Hey Guys-

It's been a while since I've posted and I do check out new posts once in a while but I have NOT been very active on OPE and I feel bad coming out of the woodwork for a question.

At any rate -- I have a friend I got a nice 262 for that's been great and he's asking about the powersharp on bar sharpening system since he won't hand file (cuts only a couple times per year) but wants to try powersharp and if it works well, it would be great for him.

I looked and it appears the special powersharp bar mount is not K095 (or D009 for that matter) and is some other style such as A095, A074, and A041 and only takes 3/8 low profile powersharp style chain (funky looking chain but I get it w/ the stone it uses to sharpen!

Is there any chance of putting one of these on a 262? I'm only familiar w/ K095 and D009 and the bars we use w/ 91VXL 3/8 low profile chain on power pruner where we use Stihl picco instead... I hadn't seen A095 bar mount until today!

I'm also curious if any of you have had any experience with these powersharp systems and performance etc.

Here's a video about the powersharp system:

Thanks guys. Any info appreciated.

I was enthusiastic about PowerSharp, gave it a try.

New out of the box it was too graby for my aged 40cc Sachs-Dolmar 108, A041 mount.
I didn't further use it on that saw as I set it up with a Stihl Picco Duro 3 carbide tipped loop.

A couple months ago I decided that my Dolmar PS-550 should have the power to pull the PowerSharp chain, so I converted the A041 bar to K095.
The chain fared well with it's factory grind, but fell flat on it's face after I sharpened it the first time.
I tried using the loop for a while longer but soon after called it a failed trial.
I was bucking dirty skidded oak firewood logs.

I would suggest to get a Stihl Rapid Duro 3 carbide tipped loop for that 262.
It will set You back 70-100$ depending on DL count, but You can utilize the bar You already have, and in limited homeowner usage the loop can last for years as long as You do not try and cut dirt and stones.
The Stihl Rapid Duro 3 features a tooth geometry similar to a regular round ground semi chisel tooth and cuts very well new out of the box.

Stihl Rapid Duro 3 is available in gauges other than .063"!

To me carbide chain was a worthy investment, as opposed to PowerSharp.

Results and opinions may vary depending on intended use and operator preference!

Curious what you had to do to the A041 bar to make it work on K095 saw?

. . . I have a friend . . . wants to try powersharp . . . Is there any chance of putting one of these on a 262? . . . I'm also curious if any of you have had any experience with these powersharp systems and performance etc.
I can't help you with fitting the PowerSharp chain to another bar mount; the system is based on a very specific bar nose radius, which has to match the radius of the sharpening stone exactly. This is why they sell the bar, chain, stone, and bar end cassette together as a starter kit. And it is not sold by the link, so if you need a custom drive link count, you are on your own.

PowerSharp is currently only available in 3/8, low-profile ('Picco') chain, so it would work best on saws that run that pitch (an earlier, non-compatible version, was available up to .404!).

As for performance, it is actually a fairly aggressive chain in softwoods, and cut faster than other Oregon (semi-chisel, low kickback) chains I compared it against. It cut a bit slower in hardwoods compared to some similar chains. I like it when used in the right applications. I have it on 2 battery powered saws and 2 corded electric saws (built-in sharpeners on the Oregon models) that were designed to run 3/8 low-profile chain. They are my 'low maintenance / convenience' saws.

A word of caution: recently eBay, Amazon, and even Craig'sList ads have been flooded by clone 'PowerSharp' sharpeners that are low quality, and sold without the PowerSharp bar and chain. They will ruin conventional chain, and not work well with the PowerSharp chains unless the bar, etc, match up. Get the genuine stuff if you / he go this route.

It wouldn't take much. I'm about to do the opposite swap of fitting a K095 bar on a A041 saw.
The A041 bar is the lighter grey one with no oiler holes.

Now the fun part is you'll have to find a rim for it. Not sure what size the 262 takes but if its a small Oregon then Nate @fordf150 has some machined small Stihl picco rims for sale. But for a saw that size I'd look on DDaves ebay page for a Danzco 8 or 9 pin rim.

Thanks for all of the info guys. Appreciate it. Looks like powersharp for a 262 is not a simple option. I talked to my buddy and he's going to use a local.guy who does.a.geeat job sharpening. He was looking for something more real time and saw powersharp. No problem he can keep a.few sharp chains on hand when going to work and rotate through the remaining chains to get sharpened.

Powersharp is an interesting system... Certainly great for those who want the super simple system..

Cheers.

Maybe show him the Pferd 2n1 file system.

I know this video is in Stihl livery but Pferd makes them in blue at a cheaper price and its the same thing lol.

My dad was yard saling this morning and picked up 2 of these for a dollar each. He got home and we put it on his stihl ms181c I wasn't impressed it was very rough and didn't seam to cut as good as the normal pico chain that was on it. But for a dollar cant complain to much.20190816_191442.jpg

For $1 each, he got a heck of a deal, even if he just wants to keep the bars! Did he try it in hardwood or softwood?

(@Mastermind might be interested)

Philbert

Some ash limbs about 4 inches minus that have been down for a few weeks. Haven't tried it in any thing that requires the whole bar.

Try some soft woods, like spruce, birch, silver maple, etc. Fast cutting and big chips!
Worked pretty well for few-week-old ash for me:

Did a little testing it did a lot better in the soft maple. And threw some pretty impressive chips. When I first tried this set up in some small ash that has been down for while I wasn't very happy with it.
