Looking for a used or like new carb for an 046 preferably an older model like a walbro HD-14. Not sure if a Zamba or walbro was orginahlly on it. Looking for the models with the larger jets or "venturies"... Spelling probably off.

Hd8/hd14 stuff like that probably what your looking for. Zama only came on some of the 044/440 I think. But you can put them on the 046 I believe.

Here is a little cheat sheet if you want to drill out your own jet.

I just bought an HD-14 last week from @fordf150 but it look like now he is sold out
That's the chart I remember but couldn't find it. A local still dealer said he could get a HD-14C. Not sure if that's the same as the HD-14-1. Thanks for the chart.

Aren’t the main jets replaceable? I hear of guys putting .70 jet in the 461 carb. Just another option if the op can’t find a early carb.

I'm not sure but when I asked a professional @huskihl he first told me the unit of measurement is millimeters and get a drill set with a metal hand piece. They run about $20 on Amazon

I got it from @dall who got it from @RI Chevy who got it from Walbro when he called.

No need unless the carb won't deliver enough fuel.

Easy on the name-calling, there, Wayne

The units of measurement interestingly cross at a #70 drill bit. A 70 bit is a 70 jet. A 68 bit is like a 72-74 jet.

Like Kevin says, don’t drill it till you know. Depends a lot on your elevation and temp as well. If you’re over 1.5 turns out on high with cold ambient temps, then drill it.

I drilled my 1128 competitor for the 2018 MMWS buildoff to a 72 jet. At 60* and 230’ ASL here, I was 1 turn out on high with the saw hot tuned to 14200. I get to Randy’s and it’s 89*, 100% humidity and 2300’ ASL. I had the H screw bottomed out and couldn’t get the saw above 12000 rpm. Had to buy a HD14 off Dave to run. Part of why I did so bad in the 1122 buildoff, couldn’t get the saw I built for rpm to get over 13000.

A lot of guys run the .58 jet HD50 on 044/446/046 and say it improves performance.

Interesting. Still trying to figure out if you had an 1128 or 1122 carb.

Edit: I'll have to look that up.

Just wondering, for comparison, what the carb jet size is on a 372 x-torq compared to a 044/046 HD-14 (0.7)? Best I remember that's the husky carb (from the 372 x-torq) preferred on 372's and 390's.

Those don’t supply as much fuel but they can be drilled if one wanted to. Personally I don’t even like them on the 372xt they came on to begin with. Erratic idle and tuning is touchy.
