Bump

Still thinking about buying a new tool box. Home depot has a few on sale for Father's Day. Anyone got any other ideas?
I can't afford (or justify buying one if I could) a Snap On tool box. I read this whole thread through. It seems like there
was another more detailed thread about the subject of tool boxes -- but the search did not immediately locate it.

Are you willing to try used? Techs get out of the business every day and discover they have nowhere to put a big proline box. Cash talks loud, I bet a grand would get you a really nice used Snappy box. The late model Matco and Cornwell boxes are really nice too and go for low prices used.

The new Craftsman boxes at Lowe's look awfully nice for the money, certainly no worse than entry level Mac, Matco, and Cornwell. They say Made in the USA in big letters, so you know its not leftover junk from Sears.

I thought over all this. A quick look over Craigs list and there are no such deals for $1,000 in our area. Most of the boxes are several thousand. I have looked at some of the big box stores and am reading reviews. I have several smaller boxes that I'm probably gonna sell off when I find what I am looking for. I appreciate the input.

20181118_171026.jpg i got this Harbor Freight box about 6 months ago. So far really like it. Looked at some from the big box stores but the HF new stuff seems better made. 56" top and bottom for $1000. The craftsman box is is 30 yr old. One of the old professional boxes.20181210_174338.jpg the socket drawer get used a bunch every day. Pretty heavy but with double ball bearing slides it does fine.

That's strange, maybe techs aren't jumping ship like they were a few years ago. Anyhow, there are bargains to be had. Don't forget to check Fleabay and Facebook marketplace as well.

Very nice! Kennedy made my Cornwell box and it's pretty solid. Speaking of Cornwell, here is a nice older top and bottom in a local pawn shop. I bet they would take $300.00 for it.

Regardless of the label placement, those seem to be really nice for cheap boxes. If I was starting out in the business today I would go with one of those so I could spend more money on tools.

Definitely not a deal breaker but struck me funny is all.
Otherwise as far as a review on the box it's actually fairly nice, I really like the drawer slides, I can give them a flip and go onto to my work and it closes automatically at the end without slamming. Pretty slick and even the big drawer loaded plum full works as good as a small drawer. Also comes with a rubber mat for the top and drawer linings for all the drawers so tools don't slide.
