Within first two pulls after assembly it sheared flywheel key. Long behold I assembled it how it came apart to find out that there is to be a washer behind flywheel nut.

He sheared the key upon initial fire.
I instructed him to mark the end of the crank at the centerline of the keyway and mark the outside of flywheel at the center of the key to index the timing.
Upon doing so, after tightening the flywheel nut, he realized the flywheel still spun on the taper. I mentioned that there might be a missing washer.
After robbing a washer from a 359, the flywheel is now tight on the crank, but has weak or intermittent spark.

I’m not familiar with this saw so I can’t really add much more info or supply pics of the coil setup for him.

Rory, post a pic of the coil

He may have a bad coil....bad fly wheel (doubtful) or perhaps a bad switch.

You can disconnect that single wire to the coil to eliminate the possibility of a bad switch. Those Huskies when those parts get old and the wire vibrates out or that plastic cover breaks will let that wire come loose and the flywheel eats it and it becomes inoperable then anyway.

I'm just guessing it's a bad coil. We tend to let ourselves think of everything other than what comment selse tells us is the problem because we think that the coil is a low failure part or especially on something like this that's low hour.

Exactly what I was thinking. But I want to cover all possibilities.

Is the flywheel on in the correct position? Did I miss that?

The cast in keys for flywheels drive me crazy. I've had a few saws where I notch out the flywheel where the key was and then form a piece of Romex copper to make a key. It's not exact but it does work quite well. The key really is just for positioning ....the taper is what really holds the flywheel.

I like the idea of ruling out the switch too.

My dads 257 has done well with an aftermarket coil....though I've become less of a fan of them.
