*f-word the PM. Just adds more to do right now.

You been milling with that 50" this month?

Got wood now to 75" @ the Y. Needs to be broke down more. Just a 60"x 15' x75Y pin oak butt. Found some old crotchety mullbury to 60".
Haven't milled lately. Had a few other projects I had to tackle and my buddy from the mill took a vacation to Alaska. I need to get back at it!

Good luck guys, on the misterious diseases. I wished you could be in a country where healthcare was better and free. Can't imagen how energy consuming that must be.

On the milling part, I just want to ask.
I started chainsaw milling last year (or last spring, I think chainsaw fanatics have an other definition of where the year starts).
I loved it, but it did take really really long. I'm using a Makita 7910 to milll 80cm (31,5") white oak, and I was quickly calculating how much sawdust/chips I was making with those 6+hp compaired to a bandsaw.
A bandsaw is a lot of money, but not that crazy much. Those bars and chains also cost a fortune.
Do you guys often have a bandsaw on the side? Or have a good reason why not? Other than that transportation of treetruncks is not that easy.
Maybe it is mostly some budist thing, being outside with your best buddy, the chainsaw. Where the journey is more important than arriving? Serious question though.

I do not have the means or the money to get a log transported to a band mill, nor the money to buy one. My 394 cost me $100 (in pieces in a box), put another 200ish into it. 42" bar and chain was $100 from another member here. So under $500. How much is a band mill?? lol :D
I can walk in the woods with gear and walk out with planks. I like that aspect. Yes it's slow compared and sure, if I had the money, I'd prefer the band.

Chainsaw mills are great for wide slabs and portability. Bandmills are more productive and less waste. I'm lucky to have a friend with a circle mill. I help him break down big logs and cut some slabs for his inventory and he cuts my logs on the mill for me. Many variables as to what works best for different people.

I made the turn. Nowhere to go but up. Eating full meals but the digestion of said food is a different story. None the less....back to milling.

This caused this

and a loop of 404 Oregon skip.
Nice bar, but then I run 3/8 .063 on mine since that's what all my bars from 18" - 72" have been set up with. Easier to have one reel of the same drive for making loops for me. Recent pics20190428_131152.jpg 661 with 60" cannon20190515_134709.jpg 1/4" hole in sprocket center allows 2 inch wider cut with d&t 1" square aluminum post.20190520_162506.jpgloop has an extra dl so the 8 pin drive sprocket went on. Threw chips and noodles into a pile on the left of the stream, Stihl full skip square chisel
Enjoy safely

Just looked at left coast supply and for a year they have been out of " narrow kerf milling bars" wood like to try a 48" on a right sized log but not confident that will occur since there's no other seller to my kmowledge.

Do you grind chain when resharpening? What do you use? If I could find a reasonably prices square grinder I would make the jump but those deals dont come around so I bought a Foley and grind round. It's made a big difference and is great to have.

I'm stihl learning to use the simmington I got last year. Improving as I go along. In trying to get a less angle on the cutters for longer life, which grind into straps a bit. No broken chain, cept the archer I experimented with. That stuff broke at the cutter twice 20190519_140651.jpg
Once when 60" loop & again at 50" with dl's removed each side of the first break. The strap I installed was well away from 2nd break
Paid my money &took mychances

Thanks for telling us. You just limit your use of Archer to under 120 drive links. Great info to figure chain stretch. I'll try it at 167 dl round ground in 404. I have five cutters per foot on my chains in full skip.

You know chaps my ass this week....what I should be doing is loading up the mill on my way north to mill medium hardwoods. Instead I'll be gearing up go get the rest of my tools/saws in storage being picked over I just saw while picking up my bench top Mac glass bead cabinet for a bud painting his Harley tins. The cabinet was filled with my convertible power heads in pieces, all grease inside now. They are stripping my equipment at night and putting the parts on other tools I've never seen. Known this guy fourty plus years....was not there for a month...like wow....like wtf did I do to deserve this? It is where my saw shop was in his basement for three years. I could not take the constant drunken bs and losing customers any more. Not to mention the saws with base gaskets coming back and clutches fling off because the drum clip was off when he fired it up, ass. The clutch shoes stuck in the harwood floor and I had enough. Always my fault. Stunned but not surprised.

Then this dude came this spring. He moved in a guy he fired from the auto body shop he runs for another guy. This dude is a drunk like him and a known recent big box store thief. They are pulling all my Honda carbs/fuel tanks and such off my tools stored still there. Even the pressure washer was missing the tank, weed eater, headgers.....why continue. Watch your back out there people. Things are never what they seem. Rant over
