I have actually planted a few at my place. My friend allows the university of Tennessee to use a plot on his farm to breed them. He sends me left overs from time to time. But this was the first mature one I’ve seen.

Would be cool if they could manage to breed a blight resistant American Chestnut. Definitely worth keeping an eye on any that are around. If they keep grow bigger and display some sort of natural blight resistance, could be a priceless find for the forests of North America.

View attachment 175025 View attachment 175026 I have never seen one around here except the ones I planted from a friend in Tennessee. But found this American chestnut in the woods today

I hadn't know they caught the blight stateside. We have a few American Walnuts here in Ireland. A friend's estate has half a dozen mature ones I removed the ivy from a few years back. I'll grab some photos next time over. All I have of his place is a blurry pic of his house and his dog ;(
