I have a 661c I worked on for a local tree guy. I did a base delete and slight timing advance and slight muffler mod. It's runs great cold but when it's hot or you shut it off to fuel saw it won't hardly start. It takes forever to get it started again. Once it does it runs fine. It's just a bush to start cold. Any suggestions. I did the factory reset too when I did repairs on saw

Is the saw flooding when it tries to start? I had to lower the metering lever a touch on one to put more tension on it. Was flooding on restarts. I also blew out the tank vent. Whatever one of those two things fixed the one I ran.

The way he described it to me is what it sounds like honestly that it is trying to flood. Says it takes 2 guys and smokes and skips

Flooding is normally a solenoid issue. But......it's still just a carb, so it can be a needle & seat, or any other carb related issue.

I'm gonna pick it up and run it some and see what she does in a day or so.

I don’t know a damn thing about MT saws. I do know that I’ve read that people try to start the “old way” and get tons of problems. The correct procedure on a warm MT saw is to just pull the starter and do nothing else, otherwise the computer senses that you are in choke mode.

Again, going by what I’ve read.

The soleniod spring is getting weak and won't get any better. Along with the symptoms you mentioned, It will also idle a few hundred rpm's lower than normal like its struggling to maintain a steady idle if its bad. I know this seems silly but a fresh fuel filter and spark plug twice a year makes a difference on the M-Tronic saws. That soleniod needs a completely unrestricted fuel supply to make the constant tuning adjustments accurately. Be careful installing the new soleniod, the O-ring needs to seat correctly, it's tiny. Do the filter and plug when you do the swap. Reset when you finish then run it like you stole it.

It's a local tree guys saw. They are so rough on stuff it's unreal. I changed the filter when I did the piston change and the mods about 6 months ago. I have been leaning toward fuel solenoid myself the saw has quit a bit of hours

If it has a white solenoid the reset process is different. But I don't think it's that new is it?

No its older I belive can you tell me reset process for each please

Older type. 90 seconds on choke, brake off. Shut off without touching trigger. Restart.

Newer type. 30 seconds on choke, then pull the trigger WFO, and hold wide open till it stops surging and speeds up.

If it happens again. Pull the air filter cover, air filter, spit back cap. Pull Trigger and gently blow down carb/ into intake boot. Now start the saw. Replace spit back cap, air filter, and air filter cover.
Gonna need video of you blowing a 661
