I carry a small flashlight a knife all the time and when I leave home I add Ruger LCP. I use the flashlight and knife a few times every day.
If you don't carry a knife we cut a corner off your man card.

They got a pocket tweaker screwdriver and a pair of fingernail clippers. Unreal.
On another note I shipped a dodecahedaron loudspeaker for acoustitical testing and UPS freaked out. A dodecahedaron was the shape of early atomic bomb cores. I was sending it to a company called Innovative Electronic Designs or IED. For someone who had a top secret security clearance and an FBI clearance I had an interesting conversation with an alphabet agency.

My wife paid $30 to mail her Leatherman home a couple years ago. I carry a benchmade every day, but I've never forgotten to stow it before dealing with TSA. Of course I don't fly very often either.

I got nervous on a visit to the Empire State Building a few years ago. Had my BM in my pocket and noticed we had to walk through metal detector. Luckily I was able to check it in at the desk and got it back as we left. There's no way I would have chose the view for a few minutes over my blade. :shakehead:

When I was a service rep I went into a lot of government buildings. If my knife was in my toolbox it was a tool. If it was in my pocket it was a weapon. Always had to remember to put it in the toolbox.

Most of my life I've had a pocket knife . At the moment it's a Case XX carbon steel stockman style large .If I wanted too I could hone it up so you could shave with it . I've got Buck,Old Timer Uncle Henry and other stainless steel knives but none will take the edge like carbon steel . I think the only reason they went to stainless is because they don't rust .
The Buck 4" rose wood has a blade thick enough you could use it for a pry bar .Gives rise to the logo of hammering it through a bolt .Takes a month of Sundays to get an edge though . It might be good for field dressing a deer but not a good tool for much else .

The best butcher knifes I have are carbon steel too .Two items both made by my great grandfather .A 6" skinner and a cleaver will also sharpen to a razors edge .The high end Henckels stainless set I bought for my wife will not even come close to those old carbon steel knives and they are over 100 years old .
