So I've had a box of 026 kicking around and I'm tired of kicking project boxes around. I decided to put it together and play with the ports a bit just to see what I can do. I've done more stock rebuilds than I care to remember and it's time to see if I can handle a twirly bit too...

So I built it with as much Asian flavor as I could .. well because it's a budget build for me. Saw went together well and cranked with no fuss. It's wearing a Farmer Tec 44.7 jug and piston with no base gasket. Squish is at 0.026-0.027". Carb has been both an AM carb from Dave and a rebuilt WT-194 carb. Saw cranks cold and warm, idles all day. Comes off idle like other 026's I've had (stock saws)... not my ported 346.. but not a stock 088 either.

The problem is I cannot get it to go over 13,000 rpm.. I did see 13,200 once.

The jug I cleaned up the casting flash, modded the muffler (mild), and barely widened the exhaust. None of the ports were changed other than some beveling. Same Farmer Tec shape and size.

I shaved 0.012" off the key to advance the timing.

Saw is blowing 190 psi according to my Echo gauge.

My question is this: Can the jug timing be off so bad that it will not go over 13,000?

I plan on trying to run it with the air filter removed this afternoon to see if that makes a difference. I do not think the shutter is being sucked closed, but I want to remove that as a possibility. Next step is to pull the timing advance out of it. I doubt it's over advanced as it cranks well and idles well but I can remove it to eliminate a possibility.

The only other thing I know of to do is clean up the OEM jug and buy a 44mm piston for it.

Any of you experienced porters have any ideas or thoughts? I think that if it was lean for fuel it would go to the moon. I can add fuel and take fuel away and it simply will not go over 13k. I can only come up with the thought that it just cannot move enough through efficiently to turn any higher.

Doesn't look like there's a whole lot of proper direction in the transfers. Instead of flowing toward the intake, maybe they're shooting straight up to the middle of the piston and mixing with the spent remaining charge. Idk. Just a thought

Nice thread, :) And pics. And I’m a fan of Am parts, cos they are affordable

I’ve just played with a snail of a saw that bogged like crap. I gave it some boost ports and enlarged the trans as well as raised the bit I enlarged. (Am p&c) it also has 20thou off the key

However. I also gave the exhaust an extra hole to breathe more.. now this saw has more torque... it pulls like i thought it should have..

I as I’ve played with more than one thing I can’t say what did the trick... but the exhaust could be the prob

Edit as huskihl says try another coil ? My coil is oem

Should breathe enough for stock RPMs.

Coil is coming up. Muffler and plug so far have good color. No time to run it tonight but tomorrow I will make time.

Yes the port timing can be an issue. What happened with the air filter
Off?
Long day at work, home later than I wanted and my two little kids are in bed by 7:00. No time to make noise tonight. May get a few mins in the AM.

Master switch not releasing the choke?
Choke is coming off. I've been reading lots and apparently it can be sucked in at WOT. I've had several 026s and a 260. The choke setup always pisses me off.

I also want to systematically go through step by step and find what the issue is. I do NOT want to change 5 things and try...I do have a Meteor piston in route from HL to go in my OEM jug if we get that far with out finding a solution.
