Odd wood.
Almost no sap wood.
It takes forever to dry so I bust it small.
Plus it burns so hot, I like to mix in only small chunks.
This wood will let you know how well your air filter works. My MS362- I call it the welfare air filter because it doesn't work fer' chit.

The Honey Locust around these parts is salmon colored when cut & split, dries in 18 months - 2 years & it does burn hot.

Honey locust I've ran into was salmon colored. This years wood pile had a good portion of it mixed in. Haven't cut much honey locust...

Here in my area of NC, only the younger honey locust have thorns.
The older ones are mostly thorn free.
Occasional new branches have a few, but no where near the youngster trees.
Honey locust is a short lived tree, 150years is about its lifespan.

Odd fact: the seeds from the honey locust pods must go through the digestive tract of a critter before they can germinate.

Those thorns are handy to clean out oiler hole & chain slot in your bar. They also make a nice after dinner toothpick;) but can literally be a big PIA:mad:. There are thornless Honey Locust also.

I think you guys have it backwards. Black is yellow, and honey has the big red thorns, white and salmon wood.
I think YOU have the "BACKWARDS" wrong My Missouri Logging friends say "BAAcKERTz"

Nature (Or Someone) has twisted things. The honey bee loves the Black Locust tree for the pollen when it is in early bloom. One would think the Honey Locust would be the pollen producer

Named for the sweet taste of the inner tissue in the seed pod, or so I have read.

Strange I had 8 hives sitting under Black Locust trees and the bees never touch the blossoms. I plant the trees base on what heard too but it wasn't true here.

I don't have any black locust in my yard but we have a lot of them around my sawmill I will keep your observations in mind when I am talking "BEES" with my friends next time
Something from wikipedia" Despite its name, the honey locust is not a significanthoneyplant.[1] The name derives from the sweet taste of the legume pulp, which was used for food and traditional medicine byNative American people"

When I reread this I note the honey locust is not a significant honey plant The author of this could have said "Pollen Producer" but may not be honey bee qualified for comments like this But I do agree
Both are great firewood!!!
