AND for $150 more, you can start with one of these... And from what I can see, you would be a bit ahead on the parts quality.
Wonder if they really do have different grade parts??? If the prebuilt saw has functional parts where we normally had trouble maybe thats the case?
I bet they cherry pick the best of the batches out for the assembled saws.
Anything is possible. Walt is top notch. The review is worth the time (at least to me).

This particular saw wore stihl color. My point is that all these clones that i have worked on have the flywheel built in the same manner. All aluminum and a magnet with a cast iron or sintered center hub, instead of using a machined steel hub like stihl uses. This seems like a huge safety issue. This Isnt the first clone i have seen with flywheel hub and or key issues
What i think most likely happened with that split flywheel is that the nut was overtightened and split the hub, then flywheel came loose and hammered on the key, which i did see damage to keyway cut into crank. The hub on this flywheel seemed to have very course grain and was quite brittle. Almost like it was made with sintered bronze, but it was magnetic.Certainly something that has worried me with the desire to mod saws up to higher RPM. Saws of any color BTW; but just curious why would a cast hub vs machined hub matter vs. the actual aluminum melt chemistry? I would be way more nervous about things like porosity and the quality of the casting. To this point I haven't seen any failures but there is always a first time. Be curious if you have some close ups of that flywheel, especially around where the fractures were. Also if you have seen a few, pics of those so we could see or identify a trend or a cause.
Sucks that i didnt get any picts of it. I just reciently got a smart phone after having a old flip phone forever. The old phone didnt take picts, and it takes me a bit to think that "hey i have a camera to use!"
