Yes it sounds like calcium/lime build up in the gravity circulation line to water heater. I had to install a small circulation pump on my water heater. Fixed the problem. Do you have a tempering valve? I have hot water 36 hours after boiler is off. But my boiler water is 170 to 195 degrees. Tempering valve is a must have and mixes cold water to make hot water 120 - 140 degrees. Mrs likes hot showers. Her hot water is to hot for me.

That's pretty much my setup. I have a tempering valve too. Is the small green box the circulation pump that you're talking about?

And yes....the wife's hot showers will scald the skin off of me. You know why that is? Because they're from hell, they're used to it. :firedevil::firedevil::firedevil:

Here is what ours looks like @SteveSS

It is a 20 plate exchanger. The lines are all 1" pex.
The top two are boiler water (constantly curculating) and the bottom two are domestic hot.
It has worked great for us.
I *think* it was around $220.
And that little plate gives you unlimited hot water? I like it.

Yes. It is a bit oversized actually, but I didn't want to have the temperature change everytime someone else turned a faucet on.
I have an electric water heater for the summer, but I bypass it and run through the plate exchanger in the winter.

Tapped into a 2 year old vein of Cedar on the back wall of the wood barn..
Forgot I put that there.
Still not very impressive stuff.
The ash that was on top of it was way better.

Yes the green box is a taco 006 pump for water circulation between the tank and side arm heat exchanger. Been running for 3 years. Without the pump mine plugged up after a few months. Using the water heater as a tank only. Not connected to heat the water with electricity. Use the instant on when the boiler is down more than a few days. Mostly after week long vacations.

Mornin folks. Been to gym, workout, dry sauna showers . Now using free wifi at mcdoodles over coffee. A bit ahead of schedule for skin doc in st Louis so 65cent bottomless cup seems a about right.
Tire dealer has $95 tire in size I want, before taxes etc. Amazon is sending 2 w/fed tax for less than $120 Hankook which aren't bad tires. Brett will mount balance etc for $20 the pair. Gotta put the savings in the gas jar for October
