Not to be argumentative but I have found that clocking the spark plug (with the ground strap on the TOP side, opening on the piston side) has shown a distinct and reliable brun pattern on the piston top that shows even and equal spread of the flame kernel.
I've noticed that also. But I couldn't tell the difference just cutting firewood. It might make a difference racing where tenths count though. I'm not sure

I’ve tried indexing the plug on a few saws, I think it was just a waste of buying 10 spark plugs (lol) trying to find one that was in proper orientation, but I didn’t time the cuts or anything.

I just use indexing washers, much easier than swapping plugs around.

Good excuse to hide in the shop and drink beer.

After splitting some wood and feeling almost warm, I ported a New West 440 BB cylinder outside using my trailer as a work bench in the afternoon. Was doing well for a while, but in the late afternoon the wind picked up a bit and I got so cold I didn't even bother to wash it out. Today it is in the teens, and I have a Baptism to go to, so it will have to wait.

The timing on this cylinder was Ex 102.5, Tr 121 and In 67. I left the Ex and Tr where they were, and lowered the intake to about 78. Looking forward to see how it runs.

This one I have in the shop I saved from CRG too. Might like it.

I wrote a good buddy's name RICH on the shirt. We got a good laugh and yes he was carry brew in and we had a few.

He retires in 4 months finally from the hell hole we both put in over 30 years at. .
