The other ring is .016".
It will rev, then you can tell the rpm drops, then back up and down at w.o.t.

Any change of the screws from where I had them it either wont rev up or bogs and falls on it's face.

Maybe I should pull the carb apart. Again.

Hopefully the top ring was the one at .016. If not, it wouldn't hurt to put new ones on. Don't swap them because when they break in to their new positions the gap will jump more yet.

Try cleaning the carb and put a new kit in it. Maybe there's a problem with certain gaskets not having holes exactly where they need to be. Post up some pics of the carb and maybe someone can id the problem. I'm not familiar with the model at all

I am not familiar with anything Dolmar.
I checked squish without a gasket, .021".
So for giggles I put it back together.
Pulled the carb apart again. I didnt see anything obvious, but I did tweak the fulcrum arm a bit.
Its a Tilly. I do not have the guage for it either, so I winged it. Carb kit was done already.
Put it to some wood, and it seemed ok.

I am willing to stick rings and seals in it if I know it will run. If not, I will toss it in the field and shoot it with the .300WM.

While I would love to see what a .300 WM does to a saw, I’d rather take it off your hands than see holes in it.

Shoot something useless like an 029/290

I would hazard to guess that you indeed have a bad/on-its-way-out seal and those rings need to be replaced.

This leads to another question: Does anyone else ‘clock’ their spark plugs?
I've tried indexing plugs in saw's I don't believe it makes much difference in a saw now if they had intake and exhaust valves like four stroke then that would be different.

Not to be argumentative but I have found that clocking the spark plug (with the ground strap on the TOP side, opening on the piston side) has shown a distinct and reliable brun pattern on the piston top that shows even and equal spread of the flame kernel.
