I have to say my Stihl guy ( hardware store) has done OK by me. Forgets to charge me for half the parts. Called him and told him said don't worry about it . OK I won't. Just got free fuel lines for 026, 025. Tank guard 066 $6.61, 2 ea. oversize bar studs for ms250, ms290 $1.50 ea.

It's an old con game doesn't make a difference if it's Stihl ,John-Deere ,Harley-Davidson or Ford Motor company .They just gouge you for parts with their stock numbers on them .
One item sticks in my mind,door latch for a Lincoln MK7 LSC .Same as used on an Escort at three times the price because it was a Lincoln .

I DESPISE going to the dealer. There are 3 dealers here and all are schit. One refuses to keep parts in stock, everything otherthan fuel line and fuel filters must be ordered. But they have a plethora of brand new saws in stock. Same people tell customers with anything more than a simple repair: “That saw can’t be fixed. Want me to throw it on the scrap pile?” Then they sell the scrap pile of easily rebuildable/parts saws to the junkyard for a premium and the junkyard sells them to us at a premium. Scumbags.

I have an understanding with one of the guys at the junkyard. He sees something nice, he shoots me a text. The problem is getting there before other saw vultures do, which i typically don’t. Snagged a Dolmar 117 complete with bar and chain (chain brake loop missing) for $5.

I've hauled at least 6 "parts" saws from a dealer that for some reason I've turned into good runners .They don't want to fool with them .Tickles me pink .
Nary a one was a clam shell like a 290-250 etc .200T, 034 super ,038 AV etc .015 with a case ,4 new 1/4" chains ,spare bar --50 bucks mint . Can't seem to find an 066 or an 084 for some reason .Hmm

My farm co-op is a Stihl dealer now. My neighbor who works there does the ordering. All I have to do is text him part numbers and he places an order on Tuesdays when shipping is free on $400+ orders. Orders come in on Fri.. He charges me straight book prices. The other Stihl dealer in town adds 50-100% to book price.

Any other day it is a $3000 minimum order for free shipping.

Last time I ordered from Ereplacement parts I ordered some saw and washing machines parts. The washer parts were only an hour away in Olathe but the Makita saw parts came from Idaho.

Many parts tree prices are inflated. Be smart and check prices with husqvarna before buying from them.
For example: they list the 562 cylinder kit for $208 when you can get it directly from husqvarna for $146.

Procuring parts can be a pain at times.

As Chainsaw Jim says it pays to shop around. I got three different distributors that carry the Briggs line. There are times one is cheaper than the other and other times it is right the reverse. It the same with other parts too. Sometimes it is beneficial to pay a little extra when turn around is important. Of course there is the Stihl line where it is hard to get any breaks.

My shop's repair line is constantly changing so new vendors and new problems are constantly presenting a challenge to get things at fair prices with good turn around times.

It also doesn't help when a long time vendor closes up shop as TEW did on us this past year. Left me in quite a bit of a bind as they said they were just doing inventory so I was holding some of my orders. It took me nearly two months to replace them with Gardner and Power Distrbutors that carries the parts I need most times. This had me backlogged for three months. I have already learn though that if they don't stock an item in my assigned warehouse I am better off ordering from another vendor.

I went to replace a missing but on a rear window crank for my old ML430...yup you guessed it $80 for a washer and a 5mm bolt.

I asked both of my Stihl dealers if they had parts saws they would sell and both treated me like a crazy person. I actually had to explain what one is to one place.

I always plug part numbers into the search engine on ebay. A lot of free cross reference info for someone willing to dig. I use this one for oil seals and it has saved me.

Only as a last resort. If I need it fast I call Jacks small engines and see if it’s in stock. Otherwise call one of the great dealers on here and get it.

$165 for a new MS440 piston-no thanks. And this was when the price drop occurred. I beleieve they were aroun $55 though CCC at the time.

The crown jewel was the bent piece of aluminum for an 1128 chain catch. They wanted $35 for it. I bought 25 of the China copies for $15 and still have like 20 of them. This is one place that the China parts can shine. It’s just a stamped piece of aluminum for Pete’s sake.

Husqvarna parts pricing as a rule is reasonable. I did tell them one time that they needed to have their head examined over what they wanted for a 562 roller chain catcher. They do not sell a kit like Stihl, individual parts only, and it was like $60.00

I'll second that. Dave at CCC does a fine job. Both on OEM and aftermarket. Delivery to my door in 3 days...like clockwork. He is one of the most reliable suppliers I know.

On the other side of the coin there are RARE occasions I'm pleasantly surprised. A 201t and 201tc complete and fully assembled top handle can be bought for less than $80????? It includes both spring av's, kill switch wires and on the mtronic version the wiring harness. Now if you just buy the top handle plastic halves its more expensive than the complete assembly. Lol
