Well looking at getting a owb. I’ll be starting to build my house next spring and will be heating with an owb. I have three people close to me (two of which I help cut firewood for) all with heatmor stoves. They love them with a passion.

I was looking at heat master but can’t tell the difference between the g series and gs series. I like the gasification for reduced emissions and higher heating efficiencies. The only other local dealer is the royal brand and I hear no good things about them so I won’t bother.

What do you guys have and like.

I have a Heatmor unit and have had good luck with it. I don’t know much about other brands though...a buddy has had a Heatmor for 20 years and says he has had great success with it over the years.

My dad has and sells aquatherm. Only things i remember about them are stainless burn box and waterjacket. Blower fan and closed loop. We have had ours since 2000ish and other then a couple of aquastats and a couple pumps(from runaways leaving ash tray or door open) its been trouble free. Our unit does a 3500 ft farm house with domestic water the 40x60 pole barn and a 20x20 area in the barn all on about half a semi and pup load of top wood per year. Early and late seasons we run it burning anything that will fit like cherry pits corn cobs pallets bark and woodchips.

Recently had a Heatmor installed. I'm currently in the process of building a shed around it. I know plenty of folks just have em out in the open but, I didn't want to load wood on rainy/snowy days out in the weather.

I read about em for years, & know several people with OWB's of varying brands. I seriously looked at Heatmor, Central Boiler, & Taylor. I went with the 200 series. The firebox is 28" x 36". I've been cutting 18-19" blocks for over a decade, as my indoor stove couldn't take bigger than 20". Gonna be pretty cool to toss 32" logs into the stove :)

I'll be heating my house, garage, & hot water with my stove.

I just came back from the great lakes logging expo in Oshkosh. I went up there to look at the hearmaster and I liked what I seen. But then the guy had crown royal 7300e there. I automatically discredited the crown stoves mainly because the local dealer is a douche. The biggest differences between the two are:

crown royal 7 gauge stainless vs 10 gauge with the heatmaster.

Heatmaster has a circulator pump the move the water in the tank and the crown has more heat exchanger tubes. Both achieve the same fire to water heat transfer just differently.

Crown royal can clean out ash front and back. Heatmaster is just front.

Heatmaster has a more finished look in the back, crown royal has exposed rock wool insulation.

Btw they are both the same price too

Just got done backfilling my concrete yesterday...

A lot of extra work putting it where I did but, overall... it was the best place for it. Will be super convenient, & down the road, the extra work will be irrelevant.

Plus, I had to cut a couple nice red oaks that will end up in the stove :)

If the rain gives me a break, I should be able to finish the building this week .... that's what I'm hoping anyways.

I really like the royal crown 7400e. I've been looking into them a lot. I have all the major brands in my area. Haven't heard many bad things about any of the new gasification boilers from any brand. Central Boiler only complaint is the computer is expensive if needing replacement.

Well I thought I’d give an update. We still haven’t broke ground yet. I decided to decline the owb. The cost was getting out of my league. I found buying a kuuma vapor Fire is more cost effective. I know it’s a big change in wood heating world, but it cost I can’t afford. And this might be something the wife is more comfortable loading when I’m gone.

That's the same reason i went that route. OWB does look nice for many reasons, but the vapor fire has advantages too. I definitely like not having to bundle up to load the furnace. I picked mine up on Thursday, by the way. Got it in place last night and installed all the firebrick, computer and damper box. Just need to screw on the blower cabinet, twist some wires, and get some stovepipe and I can have a test run. Gonna run it for a few hours with no ducts and a fan blowing the air outside before I hook up my plenum. I'm starting to get pretty excited. This Yukon Klondike is ready for retirement.

I was quoted $5400 plus 300 shipped to my door. These number were not from a legit quote. I called up there for a couple questions and he shot from the hip on shipping. I’m building a new house, so installation might be different then adding to an existing house. Ryan just got his install done or should be close. I wonder how much his cost.

Yessir, had our first fire the day after Christmas. Been running it non-stop since the next day. Compared to our old Yukon Klondike it's much more convenient. I don't miss splitting kindling one bit. It'll have plenty of coals after 10-12 hours to just load it up again. Much better than starting a fire twice a day.

I'd like to know what you think of it come spring. I have a OWB while I do like it, it does eat the wood! And filling it up at -20 or colder isn't very fun.
Are you heating your domestic hot water as well?

@Ryan Browne how's the kuuma in this cold? I'm pretty frustrated with my OWB, all brand new stuff and have burned 10 cord so far! My old house I burned 5-6 with a boiler so I figured it should be close but not so much.

Wow. Still plenty of winter yet to come...! I figure when it's all said, & done, I'll have burned close to 12 cord for the winter. That's firing up in October, & shutting her down first part of May, or 7 Months.
