I saw that ad late last night, meant to send it to a couple guys this morning. @Canadian farm boy i think he should be not too far from you.
Oh not sure how far he is. Guy sure has a lot of chains. Nuts to just use a chain once and not sharpen it but i guess time is money.

Found a deal on chains of various lenths in 3/8 chissle. 5 bucks each for any length. Never sharpened. Only used till dull then tossed in a bin. Got 8 84 driver for now. Might grab some more in a week or so.
He said he has over a 1000 from his tree service business. Gonna try to get me a life time supply.

That is awesome!
I already have a bunch of chains, but I'd still love to dig through a pile of them.

If You see any carbide tipped loops TAKE THEM no matter the gauge/pitch, they are worth much more than 5$.

Good idea to ask for other goodies he might wanna get rid off. ;)

I finished bucking a 12 cubic meter firewood log pile.
My Dolmar's PS-550, PS-6400, PS-7310 & PS-7900 came out to play.

My Dolmar PS-7310 was on 36" B&C duty, she's a beast.

Sharpened the chain on the 460 now i am looking at a cut on my finger. Didn't even feel it getting cut so i am getting better at chain sharpening.
Yesterday we cut down a 30' tall trunk, the top was cut out last year due to storm damage.
Old oak but still solid at the stump. The thing measured 6 1/4' by 4 1/2' kind of heart shaped. The skinny end of the trunk is 32"
I got it to hit the ground in the chosen spot. Now just wheel the splitter over to the tree and let the work begin.

Looks like beech....That's some short wood.

What kind of stove you got? Gonna be mean to stack.

Yes, mostly beech logs with some oak.

The large diameter rounds have been bucked significantly shorter to make initial moving and afterward splitting easier.
I bucked a couple large beech rounds to what I consider "normal" length and we couldn't move them away from the log pile. We tried splitting them and no dice on that either so I noodled them down to size.
Due to that experience the acquaintance asked me to buck the large diameter logs to shorter rounds, who am I to argue.
The wood will not be stacked, just thrown in the firewood shack, that been said uneven firewood length will not be an issue.
That is not my firewood, it is from an acquaintance.
In total I have bucked 32 cubic meters of firewood logs for him and haven't asked for any compensation.
He is always generous and repay's in various ways.

I like beech too, but I dislike it going bad quickly if it is not stored dry.
Seasoned beech also burns like napalm, very hard to choke down if it is burning on its own.

I am sold on oak, makes more ash but is much easier to control and when choked down it will turn to coal and burn all night long.

The benefit of beech is one can burn it within days after having it split - many in my area burn beech for that reason alone.
That is impossible with fresh oak, lest turkey oak which is wet like a water soaked sponge.
But seasoned turkey oak coals nicely and it will burn hot when sufficient air flow is supplied.

The only wood species I like more than oak is locust, but I can not get it in volumes that would satisfy my firewood requirements.

Your beech burns like our poplar. Dry = hot and bye bye. I too love locust. Do have it here but a little harder to come by than oak.
Shep

Much more BTUs than poplar. And it burns long enough, just a bit hot to go full beech in something like a stove. In any case, we mix everything here, and mainly run beech/ash/oak. And put on a big piece of oak near the end. But beech and ash are very nice - go hot and leave little ash. Though the ash doesn't bother us, we just use it for fertilizer.

That is some very nice looking wood.

The large diameter logs were intended for the mill, but they sat too long outdoors unprotected and started to turn foul so that the forestry released them for firewood purposes.
All in all that was a good log delivery.
In my area one doesn't see all to often large diameter firewood logs anymore.

I hope yall had a better day than I did! I blew a hydraulic pump on the skidder doing charity work pulling firewood for a neighbor. That's gonna suck to the tune of $4000 or so.
