When you do a build up on a 550 what kind of modification do you do to the muffler?
I'm no muffler expert, I have no problem with the noise as as long the work is done underneath the deflector, I've cut out most of the stuff inside also but couldnt handle the noise.

I should have cut those ears off on mine when I was working on it. What a pain in the @ss to get the wrist pin out with that thing there!
never to late, there is lots of cutters with a blade who can do the job even with the jug mounted, just make sure you dont engrave the jug lol

beautiful work Brian.

Thanks Tor
That one completely gutted but I don't think it's that loud. I do still have a screen in it.

I've decided I'm going to remove the stuffers and mod the piston and the cylinder the same way on one, since I've got a 550 with loose stuffers. May reduce top end and make wider powerband?

Dan, this might help with the stall issue.
From 2016 , How to fix a Husqvarna 550xp carb issue, @idiot with a saw posted it.

was having an off idle bog/ slow throttle response, and would die if left to idle for longer than 30 seconds. Then required several pulls of the rope to bring it back to life, almost like it was flooding itself. Needless to say I was a little disappointed in the performance. If this was a normal carburetor most people would just lean in the l screw and go from there, but this being an autotune there are no screws to turn... Or are there.this little guy is hiding behind a brass plug masquerading as an accelerator pump. I remembered reading a thread on Another Site about this little guy, it was never really cleared up to me where it went or what it's for, if someone else knows please chime in for all of our benefit. Anyway it was suggested that this screw be turned 1/4 turn CCW and that is what I did. After reassembling I took it out and did some cuts and got it warmed up to operating temps then let it idle for several minutes without issue, it didn't die once. It also had throttle response you would expect out of a pro grade 50cc saw. I then let it set for a short while +/- 10 minutes and it started one pull low idle. In my lowly opinion this has fixed my problem. This was on a walbro AT-1A carburetor, the one in the picture is a walbro AT-1 off of a 545, BUT essentially the same carb with different programing I believe. - Ben Is there such a thing as too many chainsaws?

Do you have any photos from this post on where exactly this brass plugged screw? Can’t seem find the article. I am currently experiencing a similar problem with my 550 xp hesitation when you squeeze the trigger, no stalling though. Thanks.

I will have to look at the carb again when I get home, but I'm pretty sure it's on the front of the carb that faces the cylinder.

Here is where the brass plug is located that needs drilled out to expose the air bleed screw. It's on the intake horn/filter side of carb.
