I am sorry I am not sure if I missed something but when the 12mm crank was put in the 10mm case was the back of the connecting rod groud down for clearance?
I put a 12mm crank in a 10mm case but me and @Scotty Overkill made the relief in the case itself for the clearance. I thought about taking the excess off of the back of the connecting rod but I was worried about taking the temper out of the rod and causing a weak/failure point.

I forget what thread it was in but Scotty posted about what I did destroying the eclip lip on the PTO side of the crank. This lead me to look for another 12mm crank to replace it. @Armbru84 alerted me to a good used OEM crankshaft /crankcase it was listed as a 12mm but once I received it it was actually a 10mm setup. We did make a repair to the eclip lip by preheating welding it up and cutting a new slot. So far it's holding up but I'd just like to have another crank on hand if a failure occurs.

So I am still looking for a good used OEM 12mm crank. I have a good used OEM 10mm crankshaft for trade. If anyone is interested.

I wonder how these hybrids are for longevity? How they last with heavy usage. Or are they just a GTG saw. Occasional use saw.
Not an issue at all. We've been building them for years, as Jacob J pointed out.

My point is that there was no need to destroy the 044 to build a Hybrid!

Both could run great!
This 044 isn't destroyed, just modified. To each their own.

BTW, the saw sounds great!

Used the JMS Tool (belt sander) to relieve the large rod end a drop. I went perpendicular to the crank to avoid any stress risers from forming. It doesn’t get hot, so I doubt that any temper issues occurred. I got .009 clearance on the rod end and more on the stock/untouched weights. I tied up the gaps with twine to minimize the metal fragments getting in the bearing.

Great job Al. Does the saw feel lighter with that filter setup? I hear they are.

I don't think they are much lighter but the compactness of the setup is a plus IMO.
The entire setup is pretty flimsy compared with the HD setup. Dan will be getting an HD setup to run with this saw. I personally wouldn’t use the stock setup for anything but a few cuts here and there. Any real tree work and I’d want the HD setup on there.

Did you mod the oiler?
No, I did not. I honestly wanted to touch the least amount possible on this saw.

I love the Ducati coils in general, but I’m not sure if this one has low speed timing retard like the others generally do.

It bit me twice on startup. Contrary to what many think it’s not compression and CC’s that will bite ya, it’s the saw firing BTDC that will do it.

I put the timing back to stock on the Mofo 044 i have. Timing was advanced .020+ and when it would act up you could not even approach tdc without it firing and blowing the handle out of your hand. I have never felt another saw do anything remotely similar. Not sure what coil it has...

I've been looking since Al posted that pic. No clear evidence on which coil those saws came with that I can see.

It's a 0000 part number so available across multiple platforms.

I've seen the Ducati, the SEM Sweden, the US coil and the Japanese ones so far.

I have all of the above on different saws.
