I built one in 2004, used it for a while (two weeks or so) on a timber falling job, and then sold it to an AS member. He contacted me in 2016 to let me know the saw finally gave out -
he'd been getting 30-40 cords a year with it. He said it was the single greatest tool purchase he'd ever made.
This.

No reason a hybrid wouldn`t last under normal operation and maintained. My first hybrid is now 9 years old, lots of run time on it and not a hitch so far. My second build one just broke a lower ring when I was building a bridge, cutting bridge beams. The ring didn`t catch but a piece broke out of the ring and flew into the transfer port, fell down under the crank and lodged there under the rod end. No damage to the engine at all, so I just put it back together with the top ring and its running great again.

Jeff, the way Al builds them with the light 272 modified pistons, they should last just as long, if not longer, than an OEM saw.

My Tree Guy has been running a 10 mm MMWS saw I sold him pretty hard for a good while now, and it is still going strong. The 12 mm saws are supposed to be even stronger.

It’s a saw. Happens to be a very cool saw, but it’s still a saw.

When Dan shows off his NOS 10mm 044 in wood and tells everyone how powerful they were stock, this saw will only add to the legend.

Shoulda used this saw as the demo Dan and then sold some locally. He he he, dot dot dot

The extra work was worth it on this saw. It taught me a lot about the evolution of the 044. And now it’s taught the people here as well.
