I have a local tree service that I do saw work for. Last week he brought me an MS360 that needs a fuel tank. He made the comment that the saw is starting to cost him a bunch of money.. nickle and dime type stuff. Lets face it the saw is at least 12 years old and probably closer to 14-15 years old in a commercial setting. I asked if he would consider replacing it and he said yes.. but with what? His criteria is 20" B&C 3/8. He has a pair of 044's for 84dl bars... and an aging 066. Honestly he needs a bunch of new saws.. but that's another conversation.

This MS360 has been tough and put up with lots of grief. What is out there new that will put up with the same level of work? MS362? 562XP?

What are some of you commercial guys using for a 20" 3/8 saw that holds up? What have you run that did NOT hold up?

In my experience, once you go through those saws(including the 036 here) and come out the other side, the nickle and diming stop for a good while again. Would cost a bit of money for a refresh, but a lot less than a new saw that quite frankly probably won't last as long as the 360.
The commercial guys here are hanging on to their 440's and 372's with twenty inch bars on them. Can't say as I blame them.

Probably the best direction to go honestly.. I've thought of building another MS360 China kit the way I build them (mix of AM and OEM) and seeing if he wants that.

Also just another 70cc saw with a 20" instead of the 24/5" bar would be wise. I think the 70cc chassis normally is a bit more robust and if he needs he could always put a longer bar on it.

I have China made tank on my 044/440 and it's OK. the Master control lever thingy isn't so friendly, I'm thinking of putting an old one in, but is an affordable option. I would think this would be more critical on the 360 as the choke can be a bit difficult to get fully deployed as is. I threw a 360 Chinese tank in the burn barrel as it would not stop leaking fuel out of the cap hole. Same old parts lottery. I did build an 036 about 50/50 AM/OEM and called it saw lasagna as an experiment, it's still out cutting for a firewood guy.
A twenty inch does seem nice on the 044 and just a smidge big on the 360, but it will bear down and take it.

Just replace it with another new or near new 360, those saws last for years n years and can take a beating by commercial crews. Sell the old existing one for parts to help the transition.

I'm not a commercial guy, so maybe ask Randy or someone who deals with them a lot, but at about 12.5 lbs the new MS 362 may be a nice choice, and I be it will hold up real well. Just educate him a bit on M Tronic, don't let them repeatedly try to start it when it is out of fuel.

Advantage is, they never need to tune the carb!

Agreed. I've seen some 361s that took years of tree service abuse. Nice saws to run as well.

That they have, i have 5 of them..love em'.

I don't know of a saw that comes alive more from a muffler mod. Bump the timing a little too and they don't leave much to be desired with an 18-20" bar.
