- when I had the thermocouple probe threaded into the decomp port scott and I were getting ignition temps of ~1850 F degrees.

- With the thermocouple (ring mounted under/spark plug tightened down on top of) the highest I've had the 661 was ~540F

- I can get the saw to ~475-500F pretty quick 30-40sec cut with long bar and full comp chain, in the summer and I am running 32:1.

- Aluminum melts somewhere around 1100F

Factor in any or a few of these below = doesn't seem like a stretch to say you will quickly be walking the razors edge.
- old gas, dull chain, workin the saw, 50:1 (I say 50:1 because all the saws I've seen roasted have been 50:1), poor bar oil, worn/bad clutch, bad tune, hot sunny day, list goes on and on...

But! for another measly .20cents per gallon one could run 40:1 - add a little insurance. Bearings is what needs the most oil anyway.

Egt’s are gunna tell you more than anything. Aluminum melts at around 1250 from what I’ve heard. I’ve seen 2 strokes live at 1325 egt but that’s walkin a thin line

In a cylinder they won’t melt that quick normally. Aluminum pistons in diesels will hold up to 1800 degrees for short bursts. The piston isn’t that hot just the exhaust gas. Highest I ever seen was 1999 on a digital gauge.

So let me ask a question That I’m sure has been brought up more than a few times elsewhere how important is the flash point of an oil. I’m running Amsoil saber at 40 to 1 contemplating going to something with the higher flashpoint like Motul 800 2t. I’ve never had a problem so I should probably just leave well enough alone I just think it’s interesting

Flash point isnt important at all unless you need the information for shipping or storage purposes.

Stick wiff da saber @ 40-1..
I run dominator and Maxima K2,
both at 32-1. NO CARBON buildup, no smoke after warmup. Doubt bearing failure will ever be an issue.
