Thanks for that.

If they made a popup the same height as the normal crown, they didn’t do us any big favor. Making it higher would be better, as one would have to drop jug less over it.

As said above, connect them by the pin and see whatcha got.

If the popup is the same height as the stokers crown, the Hyway you send will decorate my shelving. I’d rather cut my own outa an oem slug than use any AM piston in a saw.

Granted, some don’t have a lathe to do that.

How about you cut me one out while you're at it? Lol How about porting my 261? Haha

Mine is going back oem. The machine Mark's on the side of the popup just arent pronounced enough.

Cant be the same height with a 20-25lb compression bump with the stock gasket. Will be interesting to see what the measurements are, the pop up doesn't looks relatively mild in the pictures but hard to say as it is a picture although the lack of machine lines is definitely apparent in the comparison pics.

Connected by the wrist pin. They are pretty much level, so the bump is helping compression. If anyone else wants to try one, PM me.

Edit: pop up looks relatively mild.

The rings look like they are slightly different heights. That would change port timing slightly.
I don’t remember what all I checked before installing now. But that is my saw in the video seems to run good.
And that compression test is only after two tanks it may go up ? ( I hope ).

I'm still undecided on what to use in my saw. Seems kind of mean though, since I talked you into trying it in yours haha

Looks like the compression height from the pin to the top of the piston is close. Which would keep port timing the same. The rings being placed higher on the pop up piston would surely help the compression. Probably as much as the pop up

Pretty cool that we are starting to get after market pop-up pistons for saws. The MS 039 pop-up looks rather mild, but it bumps the compression up a fair bit, enough that I had to re-tune my compression release. I liked the extra torque for the cheap price. If you're going to rebuild a saw, an AM pop-up is a neat upgrade.

The pop-up is more effective with a smaller combustion chamber to work with. I removed the base gasket from under the compression release and the spark plug to reduce the volume of the combustion chamber to give the pop-up a bigger influence on the compression increase.

As for the machining lines being needed to hold oil, I’m not so sure.

If anyone has a new oem Stihl 460 piston available, please take a pic. The new ones have nearly no machining lines noticeable unlike the 044 pistons, where they are clearly evident.

I doubt the factory would allow the production of a smooth walled piston if it were so critical.

I’ll see if I can grab a pic.
