Lol and it’s good to start them up once and a while...

Do the fox pelts have any value or do you just leave them in the woods? The pigs of course have some culinary value...

Spent part of the day cutting saplings, trimming branches and cutting down small trees. Used the Stihl HT-101 pole saw quite a bit too. First time that's run for probably 6 months or more. While I was doing that, Groundi was mowing a pasture with the tractor and digging post holes. Was hard work and I got home in time to hunt the first evening of antlerless deer season but I don't have the incentive left to go hunting. It's a beautiful afternoon/evening here and being in the stand would be nice but I just don't have the energy to skin and quarter a deer. So I'm sitting here on the computer and watching tv. It's a long season so I'll still have a chance to fill the freezer. I expect to shoot 3 more deer.

During a very brief rasped from raindrops, I went out and hand split some Pig Nut Hickory with the Fiskars X-27. Was actually very surprised how easy the Hickory was to split by hand! Was good to get a little fresh air and exercise.

How does that split? I cut a little shag bark hickory and it dont split with the fiskars too good. Definately gotta use the wood splitter.

Next time I cut some Shag Bark I'll try the Fiskars on it and see how I do.

I know some types of Maple are a lot harder to split than others, but also sometimes it is just where the tree grew. I have had Ash that is very easy, and Ash that is tough as heck. Straight grained "woods" trees are generally much easier to split than yard trees.

Very true Mike, where the tree grows makes a big difference! Some of the coastal trees get a lot harder than others, along with field trees, I was cutting some 12” field spruce limbs that were over 100 years old...it was hard! Lol

shot three deer this evening and just got in from cutting them up and putting ice on them. I would have hunted a little longer but ran out of ammo. Next time I'll put the box of cartridges in my truck...
