I want a grapple trailer. Something like this is a little larger than I want but you get the idea.

This trailer is a 5th wheel but has what looks to be a light weight, older grapple. I might have to make one for myself in the future. An old trailer frame and a knuckle boom would do the trick fine.

Nice! Like a logging trailer.
Worth more money as logs than as firewood.

The ideal situation for me would be to be able to pick up the whole log or 40-60" length depending on diameter. Minimal processing at the scrounge site. Something like this would be most ideal, 18' flat bed with a knuckle boom that can lift 2650lbs when extended 16.4ft, 6 cyl turbo diesel engine. Add a hydraulic winch and a snatch block and your log lift doubles as a log winch.

That would be ideal if price was right.

Having that trailer wouldn't hurt my feelings in the least bit. Really want to spend less time processing at the scrounge area, consolidate the work at home.

Thank you for taking to the time to take those! Really helps! Can I ask how you made the wheel you screw into the wood? Also does your splitter engine charge the battery?

Any updates on how the Gorillabac is holding up?

I'm wanting one strictly for my TSC 40ton splitter. Im sure I could build one heavier duty, but for my purposes I think the Gorillabac will be fine. They aren't exactly cheap though. Are they worth the $$$?

I have one of the Harbor Freight truck bed mount cherry pickers in a trailer that I have used to pick up heavy things like big deer, engines, generator, tool chests, etc. It would work fine for picking up log sections with a tong. I bought it many years ago and it's very simple and robust. A plate with a pipe mounts on the vehicle and then the lift jack portion slips onto that pipe when needed or can be stored elsewhere when not. The bottom plate on the mount was not nearly a big enough footprint so I welded a piece of 1/4" plate (about 16" x 16") onto it and mounted that to spread the load out more. It just uses a hand operated bottle jack and the boom telescopes by loosening a bolt and sliding it in or out. To pivot, it just spins on the pipe tube. (tube over tube). It would be very easy to fabricate one but they're cheap enough ($100) it may not be worth the time.

I don't lift large rounds anymore, I make them into smaller pieces by either splitting some pieces off of them or noodling with a chainsaw. Even very large rounds when noodled into quarters can usually be handled by one person. Also, if you have a large maul, one needn't noodle through the log the whole way, just enough to weaken it. But noodling is sort of fun so I usually do the whole cut, lol. Now that I'm an old geezer, the size of wood I pick up and toss into the trailer is a lot smaller than what it used to be.

I was seriously considering building a Gorillabac. I think we've decided not to now. Even though I hate it, vertical mode on the splitter works for large rounds, no more large than I usually deal with. I do noodle frequently too though, and dont mind it.

The Gorillabac log lift was delivered by Santa. It ended up being heavier duty than what I expected. It works just like the videos showed and it does not tip and turns real well. The pickup truck deal hooks up nifty good too but it could be improved if the hole size and pin was the same as my reese hitch pin. I called the company and the man was good to explain why it was done like that. So far 3 full cord into it and not charged JD lawn battery. Wifeeee said itxs a hi five... grandson running the show, snow in Enid today. Happy happy happy
