Hey DJ, hows things? Your jeep project sounds like it's coming along nicely.
I've just been working. Feeling pretty burnt out as of late. Tons of stuff to get done and quickly running out of time.
Yeah it's getting there. Dropping the fuel tank right now.

Is the farm still running?

The farm is still running for another week or two. November 1 is the closing date. I'm not sure what's gonna happen after that. I haven't met or even seen the new owners yet.
On a good note my folks have found and are in the process of buying a new house.

Definitely. It's "home".

Let's get this thread back on track.

I'm gonna go play in the wood pile again today. My weapon of choice for today will be this saw armed with a 28" 3/8 bar and a Dallas chain. I love this set up. HOORAY 288!IMG_6279.JPGIMG_6280.JPG

Andrew is actually a personal friend of mine. I'll give him a shout. I did try a different route just now, though. Turns out Husqvarna still makes that top end. But you have to give them a date of 2017 or 2018 and not tell them the actual date of your saw. It comes up as a replacement. We're checking right now to see if it is a complete top end. The price, BTW, is nearly $400 USD and it has to come from Portugal I think he said(2 hours away by plane here).

Everyone WYK is a superb fella he built my Dolmar PS-420 for me
That little saw still ceases to amaze me

That was a 421 pulling full bar? Was it a 16" lp 375?

16" 325.

Tell us about the 281. What did you do?

Just a mild port job. I think scarr gave me some quick pointers way back, or was it wiggle? I forget. That 281 had a buttload of compression to start. like 205psi before the rings seated in. In fact, I had to go find a thicker gasket to bring it down to that. I think it went from something like .024 to .031. .024 was giving me alarming pressure and was unstartable. With the thicker gasket, she revs a bit more, but it's still a mild port job.
It is a complete hoor to start, still. I also think the coil might be a bit aggressive and not helping the starting any. It's now wearing a D-handle. Still was considering simply tossing a 288 top end on it so the estate owner I left it with can use it.

I think I read somewhere here the standard compression for an OEM 288XP top end was 145 psi? Is that right? So ya basically must do a gasket delete if it isn't ported? I want this swap to be as quick and easy as possible since I don't have the tools to port saws on any more.
