I paid a decent used price for this thing, but I still think I came out well. It was in such good condition, I couldn't pass it up. At first, I thought it was just a nice older 044. Then I saw the red control knob in the photo. I asked for the first 3 digits in the serial number, and took a chance and paid the 'buy it now' price. Less than a week later I had a nice high compression 10mm 044 before me. In stock form, it weighs 13lbs 5 ounces.

I love my 10 mm 044 Red Lever, but I see you have a different air filter system. I'm wondering if the one you have is lighter than the more common system?

Much lighter. First thing I noticed. Let me find an 044 from the old PHO weight thread I started back on the 'other' forums here... which reminds me I need to put this thing on a scale and take a photo for the gallery.

Almost a 12 ounce difference. It's a similar filter to the MS361. Which, oddly, stays cleaner than the HD filter system for longer. Or maybe it just makes me lazier - dunno. It's also closer to an MS361 in weight than a 440. ;) But that's with a small clutch cover and one small inside dawg. She now wears a large clutch cover and big dogs. But she's still very light for the power. I rarely reach for another saw.

Wow, was that my first post here? ;) Just realized.

Here she is easily pulling 24" in oak:

Angled fins and the stock muffler before I opened it all up to hell(Chinese clutch cover with graffiti and Husky nuts, coz I just prefer them to the Stihl version):

So did you push them down the steps after buying the saw too?
Lol.
Nope, did it right.
I spotted it about two weeks ago in a customer’s boiler room, dusty in a milk crate.
I asked him about it and he said “what chainsaw?”.
He said he doesn’t know who owns it, give him some time. I left my #.
I was back again for a repair today and he asked if I was still interested. I played cool like I didn’t stop and fill my pockets at the ATM on the way.
He was happy to get the $ and get it out of he boiler room.
Starter pawls were stuck retracted so pulling the handle only sealed the deal at $60.
