I had a 2002 Sierra 2500hd with the 8.1.
It liked gas. A lot. It was a good truck though.

Not too bad. I’m getting about 11mpg.:D
Drives just like a 6.0 with nothing on the hitch.

My 5.7 TBI gets the same . And it gets lighter with every bump lol.

Yeah, 10-11 was about what I got. Until I hooked a trailer to it. Then the fuel guage seemed to drop at the same speed the tach rose!
My beater has the 6.0. It gets 10mpg.
I let it run for 15 minutes to warm up in the winter, the wait with my girls for the bus.
I get in and just drive. Plow snow, haul wood. It gets 10..

Nothing likes gas like a 460 BBF, 9 MPG down hill with a tailwind. Before I got my Cummins I had a 1989 F250 with a 7.3 IDI C6 automatic and full floater Dana 60 with 4:56 gears. It got 8 MPG loaded or not. Sold it to my Dad but we still share it, beater truck, probably going to wind up with a service body before too much longer.

Burban has the Bose stereo, 4wd, power and leather, 4L85E HD transmission and G80 locking rear end.
And it has new tires. I love new tires.
Cheap enough to pay cash too.

Mines got a g80 3.73 and the 4l80e. I'd post a pic but yall would need a tetanus shot. Oh and a solid front axle FTW!!!:coleman:

Nice!
What rotating assembly and heads did you use?
Did you start with a standard low deck 454 block or use the 427 tall deck?
I like the tall deck because you can use a longer rod in them.

Nice! I'm looking for one of those 'Burban 2500's with the 8.1 to replace my '95 tbi454 'burban. I'm not having much luck finding anything with under 200k. that doesn't look like a plow/salt rig that's all rusted out.
