This is how the MM4 motor cam and followers are designed . This blower is having its 3rd oil change most of its way through the second yr of moderate use. Worth taking the muffler off and blowing it out as there is a spark mesh just inside the entry from the cylinder. There was some soot in the mesh , not a blockage but worth doing at service time. No sign of any issues so far.

Access is easy , good to work on. You can get to the breather system at the same time.

I really like those engines I just wish they were a little bit lighter.

How much oil do those hold?

I have a box store brand 4 stroke trimmer and I change the 2.6oz worth of oil every 3 tanks of gas. A little syringe that comes with baby medicine helps me get the correct amount in every time. Its lasted me 12 years so far.

The usual amount that it takes to do ether a fill from new or a oil change (50hrs or yearly per the spec) is 80 mil . I use a long life high grade 10-30w synthetic motor trade oil .

I have to say, the 4 stroke Troy Bilt weedeaters they sell at Lowe's seem to be really good for the price, other than being kimd of heavy. My sister in law has had one for a few years and it works great. The only maintenance it ever receives is on the odd occasion that I change the oil in it.

Is that the one where you can put the detached starter in the back so you don’t have to pull the starter?

Yes they have that now. Mine was before that nifty update bu has the easy start system. Its feeling pretty sloppy these days but still gets it done.

Theirs just has the standard recoil starter, I don't know if it has anything like that.

Yes left handed controls. Seems like a good idea and a nice setup. Before I saw it I didn’t know that was an option.

Throttle is on the Left side where they belong on backpack blowers.

Left hand throttle setups are most popular in the northeast US. RedMax only had LH backpack blowers for a number of years. Believe it was 2002ish before they came out with RH.

Makes sense, keeps your dominant hand free. If you're right handed and stuff.
