Was needing to move some wood from my staging area to the woodshed behind the house. Before doing that, I needed to move a bunch of rocks to fill a very soft muddy spot in the route. Made 4 trips with scoops of big rocks and got some fill down before I blew two hoses on the Bobcat. Sent Groundi to town to get some new ones made up. Put those on later and moved three scoops of wood before blowing another hose and discovering a stream of hydraulic fluid coming out of the rear skid pan. On the 873, this is probably an impossible area to access. Anyone want to buy a Bobcat? Grrr!
Besides that, I bent up a sheet metal door for an HVAC air filter, used my double press to untwist my deer ladder stand that someone had hooked with a bush hog. The ladder was twisted about 90 degrees. Did some paperwork and a bit of cleaning up in the shop. Grilled some venison steaks for supper. Gun deer season opens later this month here.

The game butcher I took the bear to did a great job. I gave the rug to the guy that helped me drag it out of the woods. I cooked some bear for the family tonight.

Only ate bear once, and I have to admit I was fairly under the influence I loved it! I'm not into venison but the bear was damn good

Probably with both of them, a lot of it depends on how you do it. I love venison, but we have a marinate that we use, and it is NEVER gammy.

Also, always make venison steaks rare. If you over cook them, they get tough as shoe leather (no fat in the meat).

We just threw the bear meat on the grill. I've ate venison many times and only enjoyed it once. But again the bear was ate after many budweiser's!

How game is handled after it's shot makes a big difference in the taste. I usually have deer skinned, quartered and on ice within an hour or two of shooting it. I do all the processing myself and am very particular with the outcome. We pretty much live on venison here...

I really like it. This black bear had a nice diet of berries, a few nieghbors bee hives honey and my quails. Some spices and cooked right and it's tasty. I've heard bears that have been eating rotting animals taste a little funny.

A lot depends on what the bear has been eating. A nice early season bear like what Homelite shot, should taste a lot better than a late season bear who has been scrounging for a few months.

This is so true. I only shoot late season deer, so getting the carcass skinned and hung in a cold barn or shed is usually my M.O. If it's too warm (warmer than 35 or 40 for the daily high), into the cooler it goes.
What sucks here in PA is that we have to take the bear to a check station before we can skin them. I've known people that pack the cavity with ice to help the cooling process, but it's still not ideal.

Yep. The local bears get fat on corn and berries, and taste great, if they've been there for a while. The ones on the mountains, eating dead stuff and gut piles, not so much.

I butcher my venison myself also, with a knife, no band saws, etc. Venison fat and bone marrow (unlike beef) detract from the taste.

The bear up at my property are woods bear, and during hunting season feed a lot on gut piles, so that may explain it. Also, in NY you also have to get them checked.

While venison is good aged (red meat), a bear is like pork and is best as fresh as possible.

Got a load of gravel on way home from work. Had a little trouble on way home.
Jack on trailer is junk. Wouldnt lift it. Good thing the truck had a decent jack with it.
Them tires did better than i figured. I got them from the local car shop they were 3/4 worn out tires in the junk pile. Got four years out of them for nothin.
Gonna have to go grab a couple new ones lol.

I just put new tires and springs in my TS trailer after 3-4 years of wood and ATV hauling. It gets a workout hauling the ATV up the 2 mi 4wd rd to my cabin on top of a little mountain in the Catskills.

I gonna be building a new trailer in the spring. Got most the stuff already. Few more small things im waiting for to come on sail. Next biggest purchase for it will be new tires and rims. Still need to get the angl cross members too.
My old one is showing its age. The salt in the winter is hard on them. Im hoping to not have to use the new one much or at all in the winter.

Did paperwork all morning, so I was relieved to get out in the afternoon and mill a small Cedar log for a friend. Unfortunately, there was some rot in it, but he got some good pieces also, so he was happy.

Then after dinner my tree guy brings me two saws with minor problems, a 461 (recoil not working) and a 460 (chain adjuster not working).

Took the recoil off, the cogs were not moving, moved the metal clip a touch and it seem to be working perfectly!

The 460 chain adjuster had some bent parts, but the gears were not stripped. Put in a few replacement parts and both saws were good to go in less than an hour.

first time in a long time i have the truck loaded up with more that 1 saw. going to make some ears bleed with the ported 084 and 661 and 462 as back saws.

Working on my Morbark chipper today. First time it broke down since I bought it new 14 years ago.
Hydraulic pump went.
Luckily I got almost all of the limbs chipped from this hairy white spruce I removed yesterday.
