One of the girls my wife works with and her husband bought a place, 25 acres and built a house, about a mile from us.
They've never lived in the country or had a place where they burned wood. My wife volunteered my services to help the guy cut and split firewood, as well as help with anything this guy doesn't understand about living in the sticks. I don't have time to take care of the stuff I need to do but because my wife had already volunteered my help, I was stuck.
I showed up yesterday to help the guy buck several cull logs he'd gotten from a local logger. He had them marked where he wanted them cut. I grabbed my saw and got to work. After I cut the first log and was starting on the second, he called me over and pointed out a cut that he deemed unsatisfactory. I hadn't cut where you could see paint on either side of the cut. I thought he was dicking with me. I went back to cutting the second log and didn't make one cut on the mark. He got really upset and told me, "if you can't do what I tell you to do, I don't need you.

Here's the cut that initially upset him. It looks good to me.image.jpeg

If his wife and mine weren't friends, I'd have given him a friendly GFY and left. I tried to explain that I didn't think he was serious and he kind of understood but told me that he wants things done his way.
My wife understands the situation but asked me to be tolerant. Hopefully the girls will talk tomorrow and his wife can explain to him, that he's an a$$hole but I'm not holding my breath.
I don't see this ending well.

Have any of you ever had to deal with a jackwagon like this?

Yup. Too *f-wording many times!!!

When I come off the tree I'm usually pretty pissed by then. Drop my gear and asked to be shown how it's done. After the fool walks off in embarrassment or stands there shouting in front of his watching crew, like a *f-wording ass, I pack and leave while they beg. Funny *s-word, not really, but a monumental waste of my time. And they always call back sometimes a week almost a year later.
It never ends well. Still get one phone call from a prick landscaper in Willow Grove Pennsylvania from more than two years ago....really sad. They leave messages and send text. He will leave his son to tell you there's no pay today. Really lamb drunk. Have to go find out what tavern he's in and then get paid. After the second time was enough for me.
How they continue in business in a myth to me. I'm done with them all. When you're on the ground screaming at a climber about how to do his job or what you know is a better way you're just a *f-wordin idiot.

Walk away and don't go back. You have to live near them.

Dang, that sucks. I would have assumed the same thing, that the guy was messing with me and probably started cutting at all sorts of goofy angles. Fu©k 'em if they can't take a joke. :)

I mean honestly, someone shows up to help you cut wood and brings their own saws even. For FREE. If that happened to me, I'd be trying to drown the guy in beer after we finished up. Or filling his truck with wood.

Not sure I have one. She's been to our house for BBQ's a couple times but he never came with her. I'll see if she's in any of the pics.
She's not a looker but is a decent person.

I was only kidding lol.

I cant believe the guy had the gaul to tell ya what he did.

Is he selling the wood and wants your free labor, or just OCD?

Maybe just excuse yourself and tell him that you are probably not the guy he needs. let him think what he wants so if you, to protect your wife's relationship.

Yup I used to cut firewood for someone like that. They had me mark logs every 18” with chalk and stick. Waste of time. I said f that and when they weren’t around watching I didn’t measure them. After you buck 500 cords of logs every 18” in a year, you get accurate (within 1”) and they never noticed.

He's cutting it for himself.
I think he plans on me helping him split it as well........with my splitter.

He’ll probably get mad at you for splitting them uneven. Lmao
Yeah, that's exactly what would happen.
I'm not going down that road. If he needs help, he can rent a splitter and I'll show him how to operate it. Although watching him try to split knotty wood evenly might be good for a laugh.
