A majestic red oak fell over into a neighbor's field from all the rain. The saw in the picture is my MMWS 461 running full comp square ground chain on a 32" bar. I will tell you that this combo blew through this tree like it was a twig. This saw puts the "work" :pesas::coleman:in work saw. Never bogged a bit. I took out 3 saw logs from the bole this weekend. Looking forward to bucking up the rest for firewood.20180826_202013.jpg

I like this saw for felling and for bucking the bigger trees. The only complaint I have, is that this saw pulls so dang strong, that I can't justify getting a ported 661. I upgraded the oiler to h.o., so I'm pretty sure I throw a 36" bar with full skip chain. That would take care of any tree in my woods.

Burn up bar and chain.
Wouldn’t burn it up, may be a fuzz more wear but for the limited time you’d run that setup I doubt there would be an issue.

You could always mod the Oiler if your worried about it, there are a few threads with detailed instructions.

Oak really doesn't cut that hard .Certainly not as bad as standing dead hickory or ash .
People who are unaccustom to oak think of it like the wall studding from a 100 year old building where it's as hard as granite .In the log form from a wind blown tree it's not .

My property is primarily oak and poplar with lesser amounts of beech, black birch, soft maple and cherry. None of those are particularly tough to saw or split.

Got any dead locust or dry white oak stumps? That will test it.

You will feel it tighten up if the oil ain't there. Try it. I test in them for long bars. My 660 lacks with a 36" or 40" bar. Just lift and let it oil up every ten seconds. In wet wood you see the steam before the chain binds.
Nice setup.

The stump in my avatar was a dead standing white oak with most of the bark off vs. my 32" bar. It blew through that with the bar completely buried.

Dead locust can get pretty hard .Black locust is nearly as rot proof as osage orange .Hardest I've ever seen was a piece of almost petrified beech that Copesy found .It humbled every thing that was thrown at it .125 Macs,084 Stihls,a couple of 090's and at least several 3120 Huskeys .Larry S even attacked it with a Mercury Distton which even bogged that monster down .That's 180 cc and 9 HP .

Yeah. I know. I already upgraded the piston in the oiler to the h.o version. "Been there, done that." I'm sure it could oil a 36" bar and chain in hard wood. Next time I need more than 32" bar and chain I will certainly invest in 36" b&c. Look for a good deal on 32" b&c when the time comes.
