I run the metal mesh filters on my 026 and 036. They are just fine.

Only time you gotta worry bout filtration is if you’re bathing a saw in wood chips..
Like milling..
Even then, 090 guys ingest more sawdust than any 7900..

Like way more.. filters really are overrated..

Lol.

I was blowing off the 7900 the other day with air and a foam piece fell off the tank. Got to looking and it was the tank vent breather puck. The foam had deteriorated from age and broke around the retainer. I installed another one today and noticed they changed the design on newer setup. It no longer worked with the older style tank. The puck was too large and a solid fiberglass like material. The ipl does not show the older style for whatever reason. I decided to carefully take a dremel and remove material from outside diameter to just enough to push in snugly as they had intended. Should work great for others with older saws that need a new vent.F538BFC0-E348-42AA-9C9D-781F1A4002C1.jpeg 0286A840-72AA-41BC-B5EF-40D6C9E843D9.jpeg 84F843F1-4B9F-4113-BD0B-5482894674B4.png The white puck piece (#6 in ipl) that’s fitted in the tank is the one I ground on. There is a duck bill valve behind it. Don’t grind on that or the tank itself.

I cleaned my elbow and all. Greased around the filter and ran 3/4 a tank thru it then pulled the filter again. Fines all in the elbow already.
Felt filter or black nylon mesh?
If black nylon mesh change to white nylon mesh.

Or, stop making cookies in bone dry square wood.

I have two of mine set up with felt, and with white nylon mesh filters - never felt inferior to me.

Felt filter . Not a cookie guy bud just cutting firewood. Shouldn't matter anyways the saw shouldn't be passing fines

I agree, all I cut is dry hardwoods, you can't help but get fines, low top produces more power but the high top filters better imo

Regarding fines and these saws AF options, I have all except the HD and I cut beech, oak, turkey oak, locust and whatnot - I don't get fines passing into the carb within a tank or two of work.

Air filtration issues and the claim of insufficient oil delivery keep me thinking "WTF are You guys talking about!" , but I admit it - WTF do I know anyways.
