No gears just push button on to and turn socket opposite the direction you want it to go, changes direction. Also has a hole in the end for a cheater bar.
Second one Action ratchet unusual direction change there too. Just move tab bottom on head.

Been using these at work. Never realized how much I love the comfort handle swivel head 3/8. I’ve found two on fleabay. I’ll be buying my own soon.

Comfort handle 3/8 flex head is my go to. I have them in regular and long. I don't turn wrenches for a living, so I only have the harbor freight versions, but they're actually really nice. Super cheap, fine tooth, pretty smooth, and a lifetime warranty. I have had 3 of their ratchets for a few years now with zero problems. My buddy used a long handle 3/8 flex of theirs daily at work for about a year before the head got too floppy and the adjustment bolt stripped. They have him a new one no questions asked.

I would certainly prefer snap on or another premium brand, but the way I figure it, if I want to try a few different ratchets, I can buy them at HF and figure out which ones I really like. If I ever get a good opportunity to pick up the snap on version I might do it then.

Here's my new purchases for this month. I absolutely can't get over how little back drag and how smooth these Proto ratchets feel. I haven't used the Carlyles as much yet but they feel great in the hand and the locking flex head is awesome.

I have Protos like that in 1/4" and 3/8" standard non flex. I really like them...

I like the compact heads on the Carlyle's, good smooth action with good quality and easy to warranty. Hard to beat for the price, many folks in the States will only buy USA made which I understand but if COO isn't a big issue the Taiwan Carlyle is serious value for money.

I try to buy USA tools whenever possible, but I most certainly would take Carlyle over USA Craftsman any day. For the money, I think Wright is the best tool out there. Their ratchets are as good as anyone else's including Snappy, they just don't have a very big selection of them.

I love Wright, but I have to agree. And I wish they had more choices for fine tooth ratchets. The have a couple double pawl rats with '82 teeth', but I would like more.

I'll agree with ya on the Carlyle's. I have a Napa right across the alley from me, so I bought 1 3/8 Carlyle round, swivel head ratchet with comfort grip handle. Within a week, I bought another 4 styles of 3/8 teardrop ratchets, 3, 1/2 inch teardrop ratchets and 2, 1/4 ratchets. All comfort grips, all either swivel or locking heads and they are great! Their wrenches are awesome as well!

I had to warranty an old Mac ratchet and they warrantied it, but because I had to send it off, due to no Mac truck around here, it took about 2 months, and they sent it back, without notifying me and of course wanted a signature. So it was a major pain in the butt. Now if something goes wrong, I can just walk across the alley. That makes the Carlyle's worth it alone, IMO.

I find Taiwanese tools in general very good value. Repco branded, Teng and Toptul are good examples.

I bought some SATA ratchets the other day. Exactly the same as the Gearwrench XP120 ratchets, except they forgot to install the snap ring in the 1/2" one. After installing a snap ring I still saved %25 over the GW.

I love my flex head XP120 set. Sometimes I use them instead of the impact gun just because they're so nice to use.
