Walked into a Husky/Stihl dealer today in Western NY and asked for a clutch drum for a 570 and a 3/8-7 and 3/8-8 sprocket. They had neither. I thought they would at least have a sprocket. Disappointing.

That’s crazy they didn’t even have a sprocket. How is that possible? You should have asked for a spark plug next, they probably wouldn’t have had one of those either.

I'm surprised they didn't try to sell you a new saw.

I did the same thing on Monday. Full service Stihl dealer and heavy equipment dealer. Asked for a stihl HD2 filter, 3/8 7 & 8 pin sprocket, 28" light weight bar and a few different saw files. I walked out of there with their last 3/8 7 pin everything else they had to order.

I have yet to find a real good dealer in my area.

Funny you say that. Last time I went to my "use to be favorite" Echo dealer for a carb kit they tried selling me a new saw saying the one I had was too old. I told them never mind I'll just buy it on the web.

Many of these dealers blame the internet for decreasing sales, yet what are folks gonna do when they drive xxx-miles to get basic simple service parts and get told they need to order them and have you come back & pick em up. After a couple of those experiences most give up & purchase online. These days its like that sadly at most dealers, the odd real saw shop exists somewhere but its almost an urban myth.

Stopped to the closest Stihl dealer last week looking for .063 chain and got the look:confused: and "Are you sure there's such a thing?"
IIRC we are near each other. What town is that dealer?

I had the same experience when I went to replace the fuel line on my 038M. The shop owners dad told me my saw was not worth owning and tried to sell me an ms391. He also offered me $50 in trade.
I took my business elsewhere.

My biggest problem has always been that I would have to take time off work to go visit a dealer, as most of them close around 5. If any of them around here did online sales I would happily patronize them. They don't, so I always end up giving my business to someone else's local dealer in another state!

Damn, I would have complained to the company itself about that. That's just sorry.

I doubt that Stihl would have cared. The shop owner was standing there. He was probably hoping I'd take the bait. I still buy chain from the guy but nothing else. He's the only one who spins loops from bulk and is 30% cheaper. Everyone else sells the factory packaged stuff.

Our local stihl dealers only stock powerheads, bars, and chains. There is one dealer way out of the way that has parts stock.
