So im wondering what is the difference between a 350ne and a 350oe? Im assuming its the head design? Read the NE has a primer bulb? What r the pros and cons of each model? Can the both be retro fitted with a 346 head? Can they both be retro fitted with a 351 head? Thanks!

Not quite as simple as ne/oe...

Very early ones had the 44mm open port cyl with a flat top piston, same as the 351.
IIRC there supposedly were also a small number of closed port 44mm cylinders.

Not long after they went to the 45mm closed port like the 353 but with a dished piston.
Some years after that the primer bulb showed up.

All the P&C's are cross compatible including the 346's.

So is there one better than the other? Or just personal preference? I know open port gives more torque and closed is better on the top end for speed. And more cubes is always better. But does one outshine the other? Also i dont know what OE and NE stand for:) lol! Which one is open and which one is closed?
And IIRC? What does that mean? I see it alot here.......

IIRC> If I recall correctly

On the 350 there is no 'official' ne/oe model designation, it's sort of adopted terminology from a couple other models that got a 'new edition' tag and then the previous version would by simple default become known as the 'old edition'.

The 44mm op with the flat top piston runs pretty close to the 45mm cp with the dished piston.
Put in a 353 flat top piston and the 45 will pull ahead, port both and the 45mm is the clear winner.
With a 346 p&c, it's probably the best power to weight 50cc class saw you can get, short of custom stroked/big bore stuff.

Closed port cylinders (quad port in particular) seem to take advantage of running at higher rpm better than open port and are more likely to be tuned/timed to run in that range and so open port generally seem to be set up to run slightly lower rpm.
That however doesn't mean you can't do the opposite to either.

Tuning/building for torque vs rpm is an interesting subject and one that I wish I had a more proper understanding of...

Just the tip of the iceberg, lol...

That's an old pic, probably have twice that many by now and don't think I've even bought one in the past year or so.
There seems to be a chit ton of them around here, usually find 'em complete/non running in the $10-$60 range.
Or they show up in numbers along with the pile 'o saws acquisitions, then it's more like $5.

At the time I was making an effort to accumulate a bunch so I could set each one up with a different level/combo of mods and dyno them. Point being mostly to see just where the gains were coming from and what were the easiest/best-bang-for-the-buck mods.

All have oem 45mm cylinders, one is stock and the rest have various incremental mods, from muffler only to hot woods port.

Between all the typical mods (various muffler openings, timing advance, base gasket delete, flat top piston, opened up lower transfers, time/area alterations, etc), it's amazing how many different combinations are possible.

Was in the midst of cataloging it all and got them all mixed up and other than the woods ported ones, no longer know which is what, lol.
Which means 10 of them need to come back apart...
That photo session takes part of the blame.

Then the software end of the dyno project fizzled out and they're still just sitting, waiting...
'Cept the ported ones, I use those two a lot.
