Australia before North America? Now that's just plain mean... Really looks like they are trying to maximize profits and selling them in all the expensive markets before launching in the USA and Canada where the prices / profits are lower.
I will still be buying mine from the US though

Small cover & single inner EU spike to back up initial weight claims just to get the "wow" factor.

Now that they (Stihl) start coming out with all the "extras" that were supposed to be featured on the saw anyways the "dry w/o cutting attachment weight" will go up quickly.

Marketing tricks work only if the buyers fall for them.
Everybody STOP raving about the new saw model, don't buy them fresh out of the oven and be amazed how the prices start dropping as Stihl starts panicking due to low market demand!

Again, I am not a hater.
Without competition in the saw market I wouldn't be able to proudly own 7 saws (well, only 6 are actually mine).

I’m pretty sure Greece won’t offer the Arctic version I so desire...
I think he wrote in the other thread he has a source for the parts needed for a conversion?! o_O

But since I don't really follow the hype of this topic I could be wrong. ;)

Is this news? The 461 was sold the same way, and the 462 is still 1.4 lbs lighter.

Splitting hair is what it is.

1.7lbs sounds like a lot just because I don't know how much it is, but after I convert it to kg it doesn't sound like all to much anymore - 1.7lbs = 0.77kg , that's the weight of a full beer/soda can.

It is great if the initial weight would actually stay the same, but if it goes up during further production under the guise of added "extra features by customer demand" than it's a borderline scam.

AGAIN, I am not opposed to Stihl products!

Apologies if anyone feels like I'm stepping on their toes, that is not my intension!

If 1.7 lbs isn't much, why did all those idiots buy 461's instead of 661's? The 661 is only 2.2 pounds heavier!

But I agree, if the weight changes after release that's BS.

I would argue that 1.4/1.7 lbs is relevant if there is a 'line in the sand' when comparing models within the same cc range--apples to apples. It would be fair and logical to compare the 462 with the 572, 372 or 7300, rather than the 461, 7900, 661, etc., saws. And when comparing to the Husky equivalent, the Husky takes penalty points--it's packing. Since I've dealt with both saws hands on, I can say with confidence the weight difference is noticeable. Both saws feel great in the hands and I'd run the hell out of either of them. I just don't see where the extra weight would come from to make the Stihl that much heavier.

The new clutch cover can't be much more than 100-150g heavier. The difference between a 562XP large US felling spike 60g or 2 ounces) and the EU 346XP spike (25g or .85 ounces) is no more than 35g. Add the outer dog and that's another 60g. So, 60 + 60 - 40 (EU dog) + 150 = 230g added weight. Which is .5lbs. That's nothing and it's no where even close to what other saws weigh with the same configuration. I think if you are running the 462 with a Stihl ES Light, it will still be extremely lightweight and nimble for a saw of that caliber.

You never know what will show up here. We get quite a bit of snow and foul weather, especially in the mountains.

I can get the heated handle kit. Got one on order for another guy right now.

Why? If a company releases a 70cc saw that weights the same as their 60cc saw - I can't compare them? Cross shop them?

I consider that a game-changer. The 60cc saw is now rendered virtually useless - (unless it has other features that try to save it, such as price, size, reliability, etc.)

Well, if we're splitting hairs, a full soda or beer can is 355ml, at least the ones around here. And, unless i'm not recalling middle school correctly, that should be about 355 grams. So the difference is much closer to two full cans of beer or soda. Or maybe one can of each. A soda for breaktime and a beer for after we're done sawing.

You can compare it with any saw if you want. And, yes when you are used to racing donkeys and you get a stallion, it is a game changer. Most of the comparisons were going up in cc, not down. Comparing the 462 to any saw of it's cc or weight class is logical, IMO--again, apples to apples. If you can get a 70cc saw that is the same weight as a 60cc , why not? The only thing Stihl didn't lose weight on was the price. That's where Husky lost the 572's weight....in the price.

I can buy both saws today and the Stihl is quite a bit more expensive. Game changer? Yes. Do you want to throw the extra 180 EU at it? Well that's up to the buyer and his pockets.

List prices today for comparison:
Stihl MS 362C: 900 EU
Stihl MS 462C: 1080 EU
Husky 572XP: 915 EU
