Hey everybody! New guy here.

I built one of these with the BB top end I ported myself and ditched the base gasket on. So far I've been very impressed with it like most of us.

I've been reading over this thread and decided to try some of the other mods. I did a muffler mod to the open port style going from the 1/2" outlet to a 3/4". Sounds great!!! Looks Tits!!!

I also had a spare carb from when I first put this together. It is a Chinese twin jet. I ordered up pin drills, popped out the high jet and got to work. I went with .35 / .40 / .55 mm Swapped carbs and fired it up. Top end and mid sounds stronger!!! I have no response on the idle screw or the low needle. No spitting back at idle and it will idle forever but off idle dip-in is a little sluggish off idle.

I am not sure if I need to slot the butterfly at little or shim my needle spring.... any help would be great!

And on an interesting note..... I contacted HL Supply about the aftermarket 372 carb they carry. I was told it is a twin jet. I will need to order one to be sure...

Wasnt the coil. It was a crank case leak. But the tester didnt find it. I slightly stripped one of the cylinder bolts when I put it back in the last time I guess. I helicoiled it, replaced the china gasket with an OEM one I got on clearance and honda bonded it last night. Tonight it runs great. I'll put it in wood this weekend hopefully. I also square filed the upstart chain.
Great i hope you don't have anymore issue's.
I ran a couple tanks through my 272/372
And my 266 Yesterday
No issue's with the saw runs great.
I did hit barb wire with it of course.20180725_111925.jpg 20180725_113122.jpg

I just took apart the carb that came in kit. It is a twin jet as well. My kit is about.... 3 years old I think...

Both it and the one I modded are marked C3M cast into the side. I hope the HL Supply carb is actually the same one. It will open up alot of possibilities for us!!!

but off idle dip-in is a little sluggish off idle.

It may be a bit rich off of idle with the larger idle/transition jet. You can tweak it with some extra pre-load on the metering spring. It may just need a washer or two under the metering spring. If you don't have any tiny washers, you can make up some shims from an old tin can.

EDIT: And definitely let us know what you find out about the C3Ms from HL if they really are twin jets.

You can't 'un-stretch' a spring. I don't recommend you do it. If you have a longer or stronger spring from another carb that may work for you.

Popping in the stronger spring is a lot less work than making up shims. Plus, you'll quickly find out if your tuning is heading in the right direction.

Me too. I'm going to order a set of micro drills and some 028 sheet and get to work on my spare carb. I think I'm going to bore it out to 3/4" and open the throttle up to 25mm and the choke up to 28mm. Then drill and tap on the metering side to block the L feed from the H and then drill the L feed itself.

That's too expensive of a swap for me. I priced it out and it would cost about half as much as I paid for the rest of the saw. Even buying a used carb. Maybe someday they come out with a China copy for the rwj-4, and then I could justify 3d printing the mating parts.

Well ....... bad news on the Carburetor...

I called HL this morning (Great people BTW) they checked one of the actual carbs and they are only single jet...

So, the search continues for a suitable carb to modify and tune.

I think you're only hope is to turn a single jet into a twin.
