Husqvarna 576 Repair Thread.

Had a high hour 576 come in with a blown piston and cylinder, I have had several people ask questions about this model recently so the timing couldn't have been more perfect. I will try to cover everything as detailed as possible but I am sure I will forget things so please feel free to add.

A few standard tools.


And a few not so standard, for anybody wondering the @Mattyo crank took is worth every penny.

Four clips hold the top cover on, two on the starter side...


And two on the clutch side.


Release them and the top cover lifts off.


You can use the top cover as a tray to hold the hardware.

Two 13mm nuts hold the clutch cover on.


Note the chain tensioner is built into the clutch cover on this model.

Air filter is held on with a thumb screw.


Pretty basic looking, right?


Well...


Not so much, this is a Strato Charged saw. More on that later.

Let's get the starter off.


Typical for Husqvarna, 4mm allen.


Starter assembly lifts off, note how the air deflector snaps into the starter housing.


Down to the flywheel, no extra wires, this is a standard carb 576.

Let's get the front handle off, three screws on the side...


And two on the bottom.


Handle off.


One nice touch on this model is the handle screws are all the same length, so you can't mess them up.

Bar pad plate is held on with a single Phillips head screw.


It needs to come off...


So you can access the screws that hold the brake cover on.


Remove the four Phillips head screws from the cover.


And get it out of the way.

With the cover off we can start disassembly of the brake mechanism.


Remove the detent.


And the cam.


Use caution when removing the main spring, it is under more tension than any other model saw I have ever had apart. I personally recommend a full face shield when removing and installing it but at a bare minimum safety glasses are a must!!!

Two 4mm screws hold the brake flag on, one on the clutch side.


And one on the starter side.


Flag off.


Be sure not to lose the bushings.

Let's work on getting the clutch drum off now.


First remove the e clip.


Then the washer.


Hey @huskihl I found that 6 toof rim you were looking for.


Next lift the drum off.


And the bearing.

With the drum off we can lift the brake band out.


Custom clutch removal tool.


Clutch off.


Wind the worm gear out.


And lift off the spacer.

Remove the 13mm nut.


Lift up on the flywheel, a good sharp tap with a brass hammer to the end of the crankshaft will pop it loose.


Key is cast in, can't lose it.

That one has gotten sun tanned and stuff. Cool thread, but I have to agree with @Dub11 ...it's beer drinking day. Trow that saw in box and fire up the BBQ!

Let's get the ignition off, disconnect the plug wire.


Remove the short circuit wire...


Two 4mm screws.


And the coil lifts out.


They are RPM limited to 13,300 but I like to set them between 12,800 and 12,900.

This saw was back together and killing trees several weeks ago, just now have time to post the thread.

Now onto the intake, as previously stated this is a Strato saw so there are two throttle butterflies, one for the charge and one for the clean air that purges the exhaust. That being said it is really no more complicated than an ordinary saw.


A look down the barrel.


To disconnect the throttle start by depressing the trigger.


The throttle arm will pull back like so.


Hold it open and release the trigger.


And the cable will come out.

Pull down on the cable...


And it is free of the holder.
