MS 310 stops running

I have an MS 310. If I am cutting wood such that the head is above the bar, it will eventually quit, if I quickly raise the bar above the head it will recover. If it dies, it will restart without a problem. Seems like the fuel pickup has a problem when the head is above the bar? Is there something I can do with the fuel pickup, should I change the filter in the tank or is something else going on? Thanks.

It sounds like your rubber intake manifold has a crack in it and when pressure is applied through the AV (saw are designed to move/flex) it opens the crack and let's air in. I'd be carefully inspecting the intake system even carb to manifold bolt tightness etc. Others will chime in who know this model better than I.

Look at the fuel line, they are well known for developing cracks, if so, replace and go through the carb, there will be crud in there.

Fuel line might appear fine, but the filter may be hanging an inch above the bottom of the tank and when you lean the saw back the filter gets submerged.

Sorry I should have mentioned that the filter is not hanging above the bottom, it is more or less pressed against the bottom. I have gone through the Carb when this started and I don't think that is the issue.

Not a full tank, but definitely more than half full. Based on the responses maybe it is a crack in the fuel line and as the fuel gets lower it is letting air in, that makes sense. I will check that.

I had a similar problem happen on my MS170 baby saw. For me, it was the carb - needed to be disassembled and cleaned out. The saw Would idle very low to the point of dying but if I turn it on either side or upside down, it would idle high.

In case your fuel lines and boots look good, might want to check out the carb internals.

Did you get the saw running properly.
Sometimes if the low is adjusted rich you can have a problem like this.
