little bit of reading entertainment for a sunday night...

So a friend of mine "Matt" texts me and asks - "are you and your chainsaw available this Sat 26th"? "Jeremy wants to fell an Oak tree".

My reply: Where? Who is Jeremy? How big is it?

Matt: "you cut that branch off the willow tree...he's just down the road from you".

Matt: it's an oak. it's pretty big.

Matt: gene will be there with loader and trailer and chainsaw.

me: who is gene? I'll look at it before I say yes.

Matt: ok sounds great.

background: I still have no idea who gene is. And matt nor this Jeremy guy have never touched a chainsaw as far as I know. I think they go to the same church is their only connection.

So I do some stuff and drive over to this guy's house and proceed to look at the tree. Yeah it's good size for sure. and it's got a rotten ...well look at the video. Jeremy must have been waiting at the door for the last 2hrs...he jets out as soon as I drive up. "whaddya ya think whaddya think". Me: Have you gotten any estimates? "no". Yeah he is completely clueless.

He must assume that just because I cut a 10" branch off his willow tree 5yrs ago that I somehow possess the skill set and total lack of uninsured brains to attempt to cut down this good size oak tree which has clear issues at the base/trunk.

Honestly I think it would probably go where we want it to go. There is plenty of room etc. But for the love of god. The RISK involved. What happens if the rotten part is way worse then it looks and somehow the tree ends up on his house (which is why he wants to cut it down to begin with)...even if he doesn't sue me. His insurance company surely will!!!

This guy is so blinded by the fact that he wants to save thousands of dollars that he would put his trust in a friend of a friend who is a chainsaw nut. He has no idea of my experience or lack there of.

What I should really do is explain the situation to his wife so she can give this slack jawed cheap skate the proper wife beating he rightfully deserves!

Oh yeah and he didn't believe me that the big branch hanging towards his house (ie. weight on the wrong side of the tree/direction we want it to go) if just cut off (not rigged down) would put a few holes in his driveway.

Should have let him cut it... please record.. like I said in pm looks like a fairly easy tree. Given I do this for a living as do many others there's alot of tree there but it's a simple tree and actually a fun lookin tree. It's large but shouldn't bring a really big price tag there's almost nothing around it from the pics but I dont' know your market there. Pics can be deciveing .... I still say hand him the saw

You could always put a line in it, that is IF you want to do it.

Just to drop it safely I’d still charge 600

I like doing the big no cleanup jobs and the homeowner is like yea there's not to much there I'm thinking this is a 1200$ no clean up job you have no idea buddy. Then he relizes is backyards not big enough for the *f-wording tree to fit all on the ground lol stack that *s-word 20 foot hi fence to fence and leave then they want to know how much you want to clean it up. It's like well you only saved 400$ for me leaving everything but now it' a massive *f-wording tangled mess so 650 will do lmfao.

I don’t mind taking the wood, even if it’s big. Oh that’s sounds bad.
But I’m not taking any money off
I take it often but I'm just getting to much piled up lol I sell a facecord for 45$ split I sell ALOT of wood but I cut ALOT MORE faster then I can split and sell it.
