Where exactly are you going to put this toolbox?

That is what I was wondering also

I think these are made for mounting under the bed of a flatbed truck.

My plan is a bit different. The trailer has a square tube top rail, and my thinking (that's the first sign it may go downhill rapidly...) is that fastened end to end with rubber washers, reinforced by angle iron on both bottom edges similarly rubber buffered, they would sit on the rail at the front, opening facing forward. Perfect height, nice accessibility regardless of how full the trailer is, AND a winch could be set up (as Kenneth points out) on a plate attached to the angled channel iron tongue rails, with the cable routing under the boxes.

Does that make sense? I'd only lose about a foot of bed length for cargo space, and could also have lumber up to the rail height, and if need be, remove the box assembly to have the full cargo area.

That could work but keep a close eye on bumper clearance if they hang past the front rail. A friend of mine built a shovel rack 10" deep attached to the front rail and didn't think about that till his employees turned their new truck into it with the bumper. If you kept the boxes center on the front rail and don't let them go wider than where the tounge attaches you'll be fine.

Thanks, Kyle. The combo is about two inches wider than the top rail, and the plan is for it to hang over the front of the rail the width of the angle iron, or maybe the angle aluminum for weight and corrosion resistance. Shouldn't lose much radius, but I'll probably include some sort of jackknife cushion just in case.

Feel like I was bein hard on the truck
Just pulling weight.... the turbo oil burners have changed the game

In stock form, in a truck, they were pretty sad, unless you went way back.........
In my 72 it will pull good, but will only
Run 60 , 65 tops
I’ve had many different variations of SB Chevy’s. Stock they’re beyond pathetic, built there less pathetic. We had a BB and went all over hell with that, it got the same mileage as the SB and you could actually get somewhere with it. After having what I got now it’d be about impossible to go back to a spark plugged vehicle pulling a trailer

That’s not saying much Matt! A 350 and pulling a trailer is quite depressing.
I know..

That's why the 6.0 is what the 350 wishes it was..
I can live with the 6.0 as a farm truck..
The 350 indeed was depressing.
Levi's 351 does ok with a load.
Within reason.

I hear you can get the 6.0 tuned and it will make something of the pathetic beast. Like +40hp.

Lisa's HD is damn near 350 hp from the factory.. It's like driving a sports car.
My F350 is like driving a train.
Where it shines is pulling a gooseneck with a 10,000 lb tractor up there pushing wind at highway speed.
Set the cruise and go. No idea how much hp it has.

My dually sines when moving heavy crap. I really am attached to Dad's '03 F-250, reg-cab, LB with the largely bullet-proofed 6.0 Powertroke, 5R110 Torqueshift and manual t-case 4x4. It would be even better as a 6spd manual (I miss my old ZF6) but it's a darn handy truck for everything else beyond towing our 29.5' fifth-wheel TT WITH the family. It also is a good bit lighter, handier and tighter turning in ranch conditions, with better ground clearance and entry/departure angles.

I suspect that I would love an '05+ GM HD reg cab/lb Duramax 4x4 just as much, outside of the goofy lower frame section under the cab and possible pump-rub issues. But, everything has its issues, and almost all are good trucks these days. If I could have the Ram body, on a Superduty Frame, with a GM interior (or Toyota Tundra), (any of the big 3 diesels or a Hino I6) 6spd manual and 4x4 (with factory 19.5 wheels) I'd be happier than a hog in slop.

I here ya there Mike
After installing lockout conversion hubs on my 05 Cummins, got rid of the unitized pos bearings, I’m getting 24.5 mpg on daily driving.
Good mileage and good power
Never go back to gasser [emoji106]
