Started tearing down a burnt up saw and found that the crank rod had been contacting the inner part of the piston. What would cause this. Crank rotation seems good and the lower rod bearing seems normal to me. Has the crank separated?

I got this big bearing right here to a replace at work tonight when spinning it by hand it feels great when there is about 1700 PSI on it doesn't look so good. Sometimes stuff gets funky under load.

Hello.Slowly getting it apart. I am ready to split it soon. Taking my time as it is my first saw of this series I have worked on. The saw came from a small camp ground and had little use. By the look of the cylinder, bad gas or a dirty carb did it in. Hopefully get it apart tomorrow. The crank bearings do seem tight and feel as they should. Maybe under load they are toast. The wrist pin bearing was very hard to remove and definitely had seen some heat. I will post some more pictures. I decided I am going to replace the crank and bearings. These saws are hard to find here and I want it to last. Was disappointed when I popped the flywheel and found it the magnet for the heated handle ruined! Oh well still happy to have it.

How was the magnet ruined?

An inch was missing... I didn't think of this but that would of been terribly out of balance. Hard on bearings

Case has some light scratches, not sure if it is junk. It does not feel to bad but I’m not sure if it will hold a new bearing or just spin again. Crankshaft looks wide at lower rod bearing. No marks showing crank contact to case halves. Am I ok to reassemble with new crank and bearings? Is the crank maybe ok? Thanks for the help, I have never had a saw with a crank failure.

Looks like the bearing pocket is ruined. Crank is probably ok as long as the lower bearing is good.

If it was the flywheel side I could hook you up...Post a want ad in the classifieds someone will have what you need.

I don’t want to come off as to much of a bush mechanic but can a person use loctite bearing retainer or is it a terrible idea?

That and take a punch and put a bunch of divits in that bearing pocket to try and grab the bearing.

That's totally up to you. I don't have enough experience with it to form an opinion. HL had China cases on sale the other day for 30 bucks.
