Dose anyone still cut there grass with an old cub lowboy? Just got one cheap hate to part it out. Thinking about fixing it for lawn duty and Maby a little skidding of logs.

They are a good lawn mower, but like a lit of older small tractor/mowers they have some shortcomings. Rear belt and pulley PTO compared to many shaft drive mowers of the same age, a lack of a standard 3 point, standard transmission often lacking in the right speed to power band, but most of all the little engine was somewhat anemic in taller grass. All that said I like them, the 184 was much better in power

It has the best of me right now lol. I have the motor un stuck and cleaned up. Had to weld the head up. Someone let the water get hard.
Going to have to try to get it running.

If you have it down that far consider putting in some popup pistons and a valve job. The little C60 engine is very reliable but not very powerful. Check the head for warpage. Prone to cracking if not absolutely flat. You can get rebuild kits from Messicks. If coil is original consider a new Pertronix one. Points kit and carb kits from tractor supply are trash.

Thanks. I will do a valve job just becous it is easy. Already has fire crackers in it. Looks like it was rebuilt not long ago.

+1 for Pertronix ignition. I have one on my little Ferguson and it's awesome. You can use standard resistor core wires, which are easier to find and don't corrode up like copper core.

Offset tractors are still really common around here. Alot of folks bought them for double duty cultivating tobacco and as a big riding mower. In nice shape, they can bring more than a larger tractor. If you decide not to go through with fixing it I can't imagine you would have difficulty selling it for a fair price, especially if you have any attachments for it.

Thanks. Going to try to get it running on the cheep to check out the rest of the tractor and go from there.
Don't want to sink a bunch of money in the motor and find more problems.

You can get service manual here

Be sure to prime oil pump and fill where oil filter goes the crank with starter till oil squirts out of hole in filter housing. C60 engine can run dry and take a while to prime and pump oil after a rebuild Setting initial ignition timing can be a little challenging too. Be sure to use sealant on head bolts that go into water jacket. New spark plugs a must D18 or D21 champs. Common issues on the numbered Loboys

Seems like D18 and D21 will work in darn near anything with an 18mm thread!!
