Hi everyone hopefully this topic hasn't been Beat to Death too bad. I've got a small Alaskan Mill I'll be running a 661 with a 36-inch bar on it for Milling. My question is to all you guys do you have a preferred chain type? Is it worth it to spend the money on so-called Milling chain? Just looking for this information I appreciate any and all help thanks Joe

Finish was the same as semi chisel for the most part. It was about 40% faster cutting so less fuel used and time spent sawing. I touchy after every 2 cuts in 9' long cherry or oak

I tried the square (full skip) on a 119dl set up and milled a bunch after Mikes recommendation. It works awesome. After a while, I had a bit of a hard time with the double bevel while the saw was mounted in the mill so I switched to round at about 10 degrees. Finish was similar and it was a lot slower cutting. I've since switched back. Square is more durable, it just stays sharp longer.

What is the difference between a regular chain and a ripping chain? I realize on chain cross cuts, and the other goes with the grain. LOL
But how are the teeth different? Looks like a little different tooth sequence.
And, please tell me about those Granberg pliers.

Ripping chain is ground at 10 to 11 degrees not 25 to 30 degrees. Plus a stepper face angle. 70 degrees instead of 55-60 degrees. Make for a durable cutter. Doesn't cut as fast but doesn't dull as fast. That my theory.

I use the dremel to grind the rivets down and the Granberg to punch out rivets. My breaker can bend the drive links when punching out the rivets.

I've milled with both regular 3/8 chain and 3/8 milling chain. I felt like the milling chain was a tad faster, but I liked the "finish" from the regular chain better. Then again, I have a bad habit of angling the bar back and forth in the cut. Bought my milling chain from Bailey's.
